If reacting cellulose with nitric acid gives cellulose nitrate, then I suppose it's not too much of a stretch to imagine what happens when you react cellulose with acetic acid. Yes, folks, we get cellulose acetate. This is used as a fiber. This is fiber used to make acetate graduation gowns.This fiber is also used in cigarette filter or cigarette tow.
