Notes on my training on the 26th May

I began walking at 4.40pm, and finished at 5.20pm, when I tested and found (as I suspected) I had quite a low blood sugar. I walked from Clonskeagh to Charlemont Street, which I estimated at 3.1 km. I had intended walking into the GPO again, which is 5.2 km. I had realised around 5.00pm that my blood sugar was falling, but it was raining and there wasn't any shelter where I could stop to test. I just ate a few glucose tabs every few minutes until I got a chance to test. Then I got the bus.

Insulin details

My usual basal rate at this time is .4 units per hour. I set a temporary basal rate of .2 units when I began exercising. It's generally recommended that you halve your basal rate before exercise, and do so 15 minutes to a half hour beforehand. I think my blood sugar dropped so dramatically because I didn't lower my basal rate in advance.

I also had .86 units of a meal bolus remaining in my system when I started walking.

Carbs during exercise

I ate a total of 27.9g during this exercise. At 5.00pm I had three glucose tabs for 9.3g of carb, at 5.15 I had another 3 tabs, and I had another three at 5.20pm when I stopped to test. Then I waited for my blood sugar to rise while I waited for the bus.
