Training for the Dublin Women's Mini Marathon: 4 to 8 mmol/l

Why am I keeping my blood sugars between 4 and 8 mmol/l?

In the UK and Ireland, normal blood sugars are defined as being between 4 and 8 mmol/l. Everyone with diabetes should try to maintain normal or near-normal blood sugars whenever possible. Doing so will help prevent diabetic complications. Studies have demonstrated and pump users report that these targets are easier to reach while using a pump than while using Mulitple Daily Injections (MDI) or one or two shots a day.

What does that mean in mg/dl?

In some countries, blood sugar is measured in mg/dl rather than mmol/l.

4 - 8 mmol/l = 73 - 144 mg/dl.

You can convert mmol/l to mg/dl by muliplying by 18.
