A Special Mother

This page is dedicated to my mother who has always been there for me. Also my grandmother for the same reasons. They have both played a significant role in the shaping of the person that I am today. I can never repay them nor express the depth of my gratitude for the years of selfless giving that they have bestowed upon me throughout my life. Thank you for being my mother!

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you feed a stray cat, and I thought it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make my favorite cake for me, and I knew that little things are special things.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I heard you say a prayer, and I believed there is a God I could always talk to.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I felt you kiss me goodnight, and I felt loved.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw tears come from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it's all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw that you cared and I wanted to be everything that I could be.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I looked . . . . and wanted to say thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn't looking.

Mom, this page is dedicated to you. You are always there for me even though a great distance separates us. I have been blessed in so many ways that I can't even begin to thank you for everything you have done for all of us. You have my vote for Mother of the Year 2003! Thank you for being my mom!

Grandma, you are also very special. You have been an inspiration for me all my life. I admire your strength, faith and kindness. I have never heard you say a harsh word towards anyone. I cherish the many memories of my life with you in them and I think of you often. Thank you for being my grandmother!

A Mother's Tears
(Why Mother's Cry. . . )

"Why are you crying?" he asked his mom.
"Because I'm a mother," she told him.
"I don't understand," he said.
His mom just hugged him and said, "You never will!"

Later the little boy asked his father why Mother seemed to cry for no reason.
"All mothers cry for no reason," was all his dad could say.

The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why mothers cry.
So he finally put in a call to God and when God got on the phone the man said, "God, why do mothers cry so easily."

God said, "You see son, when I made mothers they had to be special. I made their shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gentle enough to give comfort. I gave them an inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that many times come from their children.

"I gave them a hardiness that allows them to keep going when everyone else gives up, and to take care of their families through sickness and fatigue without complaining.

"I gave them the sensitivity to love their children under all circumstances, even when their child has hurt them very badly. This same sensitivity helps them to make a child's boo-boo feel better and helps them share a teenager's anxieties and fears.

"I gave them a tear to shed. It's theirs exclusively to use whenever it's needed. It's their only weakness. It's a tear for mankind."
