Betrayal of Trust

Continued....

Carter had lost all track of time. Leaning back against the wall she closed her eyes. Damn she was tired! Jack had allowed them to set Daniel's shoulder, pulling the younger man to him once again when they'd finished. She could hear him still crooning softly, soothingly to Daniel, reassuring him everything was going to be fine. They were going home soon and the doc would have him fixed up good as new in no time.

Jack had said nothing to either Teal'c or herself. She wasn't sure he was even aware of their presence. Unlike the room where they'd been held, there were dozens of candles in holders along the walls, emitting the same sickeningly sweet smell that had fill the entrance chamber.

"Captain Carter, you should rest." Teal'c sat down and with a gesture of tenderness he usually reserved for when one of them was injured, placed an arm around her, letting her use his shoulder for a pillow.

"I almost told her Teal'c." The quiet admission was spoken with shame, as tears of her own weakness slipped down her cheeks. "I almost gave her the codes."

"However you did not. You protected your world. More importantly you kept your word to Daniel Jackson." Teal'c's gaze fell upon the other two men. "I too was tempted to tell her what she desired but it would have been of no use...Sleep and then we will concentrate on escape."

"NO! Leave him alone!" O'Neill screamed diving at the Jaffas as they tore Daniel from his arms. Staff weapons swung in their direction as Sam and Teal'c moved to help the man valiantly fighting to protect his wounded friend.

"Colonel!" Ignoring the staff weapon Sam rushed to O'Neill as the energy from a zat gun engulfed him. He crumpled to the floor, gasping for air, shaking with after effects as the four Jaffa disappeared through the door dragging Daniel between them.

"I promised him...Damnit I promised!" O'Neill ranted, beating bloody fists against the door.

"Sir?" Confused, Carter glanced at Teal'c as the colonel moved from the door and angerily paced the room, rubbing his hands through his short grey hair in agitation. Whether it was the zat gun or the trauma of losing Daniel again the shock was gone. He was furious, frustrated and frightened. A combination which made him a very dangerous man. He turned to face them, his expression one of cold determination, once more the military officer trained to defeat the enemy.

"Intell now!"

"It's Nurti' sir. She wants the codes. Teal'c says there's renegade Goa'ulds who would pay alot for them. When we came to our weapons were gone. I'm assuming yours is too." Carter said a silent prayer of thanks at his nod. They could definately use it now but if the colonel had retained his weapon, Daniel would probably be dead already. "Other than the entrance room and Nurti's personal quarters we haven't seen anything else. I haven't seen any sign of a gate but there are a set of transportation rings in her quarters."

"Numbers?

"I have counted only six Jaffa and two personal servants." Teal'c supplied. "That is not to say, there are not more." Carter could picture the wheels turning in his mind as O'Neill continued to pace the room, weighing their options, discounting one strategy only to replace it with another.
