"M' kay." He coughed, his voice harsh. The broken nose forcing him to breathe through his mouth made his already raw throat feel as if he'd drank a glass of sand. "Thir..sty."
Quickly filling a cup with water, Teal'c passed it to Sam and seating himself next to Daniel, leaned the smaller man against his broad chest, supporting him as Carter held the cup letting the cool liquid trickle between his lips.
"Well at least she doesn't intend to starve us to death." Sam commented sarcastically, pulling close the tray containing three bowls of delicious smelling stew and several thick pieces of bread.
"Wha...want?"
"The codes."
"Treaty." He ran the tip of his tongue across his bottom lip.
"She doesn't give a damn about the treaty because she doesn't intend to attack earth." With a sigh of resignation, Sam decided it was probably best to let him know what they'd discovered. He was the one taking the brunt of their punishment; besides he had a knack for knowing when one of them was lying to him. "It seems she had to forfeit alot of her territory as payment for the fiasco at the treaty summit. Of course she blames us, especially Colonel O'Neill."
"She intends to sell the codes to the highest bidder." Teal'c added. "There are Goa'uld who care nothing for the treaty. With the codes they may be able to convince the others to unite against the Tauri."
"And since the...the Asgard are basically...bluffing...we'd be-be in....deep shit." The water and the broth he'd allowed Sam to spoon feed him had restored a small amount of strength. The pain, his constant companion was shoved aside as he forced himself to concentrate. "Us?"
"She plans on trading us to Apophis." Barely hearing her, Daniel waved the spoon away, his eyes wearily sliding closed.
"It is alright Daniel Jackson. You are safe." Teal'c soothed as crying out Daniel jerked from his grasp. It was just a dream! Just a nightmare! He hadn't given up the codes! His friends hadn't died! Earth was still safe! He hadn't given up the codes! His breathing slowed, the terror fading as he kept the words running through his mind.
How many times since they stepped through the gate to Apakia had he had this same nightmare? Logically the dream made no sense. The only SGC codes he knew that would put anyone in danger was the iris codes and knowing General Hammond, the Goa'uld would never get past the gate room alive. His heart sank as the answer surfaced. This was about revenge pure and simple and he was the instrument of that revenge! His eyes closed and he slipped once more into the painless comfort of darkness.
Breathing deeply, Shelayia walked through the mist of anguish, ignoring the images rushing at her, eyes focused only on the pitiful form huddled in its center.
"Daniel." Raising his head, surprise registering, he wiped at the tears as she knelt before him. "I must speak with you."
"How-"
"Listen to me Daniel. Soon they will come for you again."
"She's using me to get to the others." It was a bitter statement of fact.
"Yes. She wishes only vengence. She uses the things you fear, hate and love against you. Your spirit will aid the others in their victory." Daniel blinked as her image began to recede with the fog.
"Shelaya!"
Her words hung in the still air, "Give them your strength Daniel."
