Betrayal of Trust

Continued....

"Wake up you sadistic son of a bitch!" Daniel gasped at the vicious kick to his ribs. A hand twisted in his hair as he tried to roll away, yanking him to his feet. What little air he'd been able to inhale rushed from his lungs as he was slammed against the wall. Swallowing the fear, he forced his eyes open, stunned to find himself staring into the hate filled brown eyes of Jack O'Neill.

Sam paced the room for what must have been the hundredth time. It was well lit although there were no windows or any obvious source of light. She and Teal'c had checked the room a dozen ways to Sunday to no avail. Other then a panel that slid open to reveal a source of cool clean water they had discovered nothing. Abstractly she realized they wouldn't die of thirst.

Their only means of escape was through the door, which they had no way of opening. They had two options: wait for Jack and Daniel to rescue them or try and overpower the guards when they entered.

"It has been five hours and thirty seven minutes since we regained consciousness." Teal'c stated, as out of habit she glanced at the watch now concealed by the manacles. Over five hours and nothing.

Five hours, sitting in this room worrying about their friends. Sam knew he was as worried about Jack and Daniel as she was, envying the calm he displayed.

"Captain Carter, someone approaches." Before either of them could get into position, the door opened and two Jaffa entered their staff weapons pointed at the prisoners, clearly indicating they should remain where they stood. Two more Jaffa followed, dragging an unconscious body between them. Dropping the limp form in the middle of the room, the four backed out, the door sliding closed behind them. Dropping to her knees, Sam gently eased the prone body onto his back, momentarily rocking back in horror at the devastation inflicted on her team mate. "Oh my God!! Daniel!"

Bloody, bruised and swollen his handsome young face was almost unrecognizable. Pushing aside the cold wave of fear that washed over her, Carter called on all her military training to deal with the situation at hand. Careful the length of chain didn't do more harm, she lightly ran her hands over his body, assessing the severity of his injuries. His chest and arms were covered with bruises, and it was unclear by the slight give of several ribs whether they were broken or just cracked but three fingers on his left hand were definately fractured. A small measure of relief was that his pulse was strong and steady.

"Teal'c help me!!" Buttons flew in all directions as she ripped the front of her outter shirt open. "I can't get this off with these cuffs." The shirt fell away leaving just the sleeves as he grabbed the seams and ripped. Wetting part of the material, Sam wiped away the blood, revealing a deep gash along Daniel's well defined cheekbone, and another just above his left eye. His nose was broken, his lips split. Wetting another strip of cloth, she lay it across his eyes. If they could keep the cloth cold enough it might help with the swelling.

Using smaller strips, Teal'c set and splint Daniel's fingers, his frown deepening with anger at the damage done to the archeologist and his own inability to prevent it. Unsure of any internal injuries Sam opted not to move him for the moment. Resting his head in her lap, Sam stroked his hair soothingly, sniffling quietly as the tears she'd kept in check slipped down her cheeks. Daniel had stirred occasionally, mumbling incoherently, crying out in pain, weakly begging for Jack's help, but hadn't yet completely regained consciousness when the Jaffa guards entered once again.

"Come!" They demanded, motioning to Carter and Teal'c

"We'll be back Daniel," She promised as she gently pillowed his head on the torn remains of Teal'c's jacket. Brushing a stray strand from his forehead she whispered softly, "Just rest easy."

Teal'c offered her support as pins and needles raced through her legs from sitting in one position so long. With a glance back at Daniel, they followed the Jaffa warriors through the corridors.
