Still carrying the child, Meelay led them to a large tent slightly set apart from rest of the village. The inside contained four beds of thick animal fur as well as everything the cheiftain thought they would need to be comfortable. Their packs and supplies were stacked neatly next to the entrance flap and a small welcoming fire flickered in a fire ring at the center of the structure.

"If you desire anything, please ask. Now you must rest, for tonight there will be a great celebration in honor of our guests who came through the Spirit Stone."

"Thank you. Uh Meelay," Daniel stopped the other man as he turned to leave. "May I ask a question?"

"You may ask as many questions as pleases you Daniel Jackson. If I can answer I will."

"How old are you?"

"I have seen almost two hundred seasons of the white rain." He grinned. "My father saw four hundred seasons."

"I...was just....Thank you." The old man smiled and continued on outside, leaving the SG team alone.

"Daniel?" Jack's curiosity got the better of him.

"He's almost two hundred years old. His father was four hundred."

While the rest of SG-1 decided to follow Meelay's advice, each claiming a sleeping pallet for a nap, the archeologist went into what O'Neill privately called the Jackson Zone.

"Daniel?....Daniel!" O'Neill glanced over at the man now engrossed in examining the markings on the pottery as well as the woven baskets, beaded bags and other living implements set about the tent, mumbling excitedly. "DANIEL!"

"Sorry...what?" The scientist pulled his attention from the items and pushed his glasses up higher on his nose as he focused on O'Neill.

"I understand you find all of this extremely fascinating but the rest of us are trying to get some shut eye."

"Sorry Jack...I'm not tired." Daniel shrugged turning back to the large water jug. "The paintings on this jug are remarkably similar to the Lakota Souix but there's letters on here that are definately Egyptian. I really-"

"DANIEL!"

Daniel frowned, not looking around as he muttered, "I thought you were going to get some sleep Jack?"

"That might be possible if a certain motor-mouthed archeologist would SHUT UP!"

"Sorry." Chastized, Daniel slipped from the tent as Jack shook his head and lay back throwing an arm across his eyes.

Shelaya smiled, watching as Daniel pulled several oblong objects from his pocket, breaking them into pieces and passing them to the children gathered around him, laughing at their expressions of joy as they followed his example, popping the pieces into their mouths. He spoke softly to the children before continuing on, ambling slowly through the village, stopping several times to speak with people, asking or answering questions, complimenting the blanket an old woman was weaving, watching with interest as the people went about their activities. Her smile faded, despair washing over her face as the images of her visions returned.

With such a diverse mixture of cultures, Daniel couldn't advise his teammates on what to expect of the gathering celebration. "Although there are indications of both cultures, obviously they seem to lean more toward the Indian way of life. Going on that basis, umm...." Daniel searched his mind for information on Native American culture, specifically the Souix. The Apakian speech seemed to be a mixture of Lakota Souix and Ancient Egyptian which made translating interesting.

"Don't pass in front of someone sitting by the fire. In native American cultures, it's considered rude. Look directly at the person you're speaking to. No matter what, don't lie. If they ask something we can't give them an answer to, play politician and evade the question."

"We cannot give an answer if we do not understand the question Daniel Jackson."

"Good point Teal'c..." A quick nod from both Sam and Jack let him know they understood and would help him if necessary.

As he turned to Jack, seeming to direct his next comment at the leader of SG-1, Sam studied the ground in a vain attempt to hide her smile. "Don't interrupt anyone speaking no matter what. That's also considered disrepectful. If you have any questions or comments hold them until it's your turn to speak."

"Why are you looking at me?...Is that a slam?"

"No Jack, but you do have a tendancy-"

"I can be just as couth as the next person." Daniel rolled his eyes as if to say 'see what I mean' as Jack continued. I have manners I've never even used."

"Well please use them...Just follow the Apakians lead, doing what they ask."

"Excuse me?"

"Look Jack, I don't mean do something that's going to endanger anyone I mean....I can't...I don't know much about these people or their traditions. I have no idea what might happen or what to expect. I would guess that it's going to be alot of eating, dancing and story telling but I do know that we are on their world and our mission is to try and create an alliance with these people. Therefore we should do everything possible to fit in."

"When in Rome." Jack repeated the words Daniel had spoken so long ago on Chulak.
