Seefeldt, 85 year old Big Island resident, who succumbed at 6:15 0'clock Saturday night in the home of his brother Theodore, were hed at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the Knox mortuary chapel, in Rock Island with Rev. Frederick J. Rolf, pastor of the Evangelical Church of Peace, Rock Island, officiating. Burial was in Andalusia cemetery. He was born Sept, 4 1854 i Mecklenburg, Germany. and came to this country, settling in Davenport when he was 3 years old. He married Miss Susan Schmid, who preceded him in death. He spent most of his life in Muscatine, Iowa, retiring 11 years ago and moving to Big Island. He was a member of the Masonic order and the Knights of Pythias in Muscatine. Rev. Ernest J. Campbell, pastor of the First Methodist church, Rock Island, officiated. Burial was in Andalusia cemetery. Mr. Seefeldt passed away at 9:20 a.m. Sunday in his Island home where he had resided for 36 years. He had been ill for only two weeks. Born Nov. 28, 1859 in Davenport, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Seefeldt. He married Lucy Einfeldt of Rock Island of Rock Island. Feb 12, 1889, in Rock Island. Since their marriage Mr. Seefeldt had been engaged in farming near Milan. Surviving are the widow; a son, Roy of Rock Island; two daughters, John Eick, Jr., and George O. Heber, both of Big Island; a brother. Jack of Red Oak, Iowa, and five grandchildren. Three daughters, Mrs. Ray Robinson, Mrs. Edwin Peterson and an infant, preceded him in death. Roy R. Seefeldt Roy Seefeldt, Milan resident, dies at age 78 Roy R. Seefeldt, 78, formerly of 321 E. 1st St., Milan, died Saturday night at Morrison General Hospital, Morrison, ILL. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Larson Funeral Home, Milan. The Rev. Cecil R. Hankins former pastor of Coyne Center Baptist Church, Milan, will officiate, and burial will be in Andalusia Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow afternoon and evening, where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 tomorrow night by Eureka Lodge No. 69, AF & AM, Milan. He was a 50-year member of the Lodge. He was born Nov. 19, 1899 in Andalusia, the son of Theodore and Lucy Einfeldt Seefeldt. He was a life resident of Rck Island and Milan, and owned his own real estate and insuance busuness in Rock Island, retiring in 1952. He then operated the Seefeldt Mobile Homes Sales in Milan, retiring in 1972. He married Alice M. Moore April 12, 1922 in Davenport. She died in 1931. He later married Ruth Flagle in 1935. She died in June 1948. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Duane W. Prentiss, Morrison, two grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. George Heber, Rock Island. He also was preceded in death by three sisters. The body was removed from the mortuary this morning to the home on Big Island where it will remain until time for the services Saturday. Mrs. Seefeldt, the former Miss Lucy Einfeldt, was born in Rock Island April 23, 1863, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Einfeldt. She received her education in Rock Island public schools. She was married to Theodore Seefeldt in Rock Island on Feb 12, 1889. The couple made their home in Andalusia until 1905, when they moved to Big Island. Mr. Seefeldt died June 22, 1941. Mrs. Seefeldt was a member of the Evangelical Church of Peace, Rock Island, the Royal Neighbors of America, and the Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are two daughters. He was born in Andalusia, ILL. on Aug 3, 1894, son of Clara Buffum Seefeldt and Frank Seefeldt. He married Elizabeth Genslinger Sept 20, 1916 in Davenport, Ia. She is deceased. Mrs. Elizabeth Anderson Seefeldt Mrs. Seefeldt Dies at Age 69 in Missouri Mrs. Elizabeth Anderson Seefeldt, 68, a former Milan resident, died in her home in Madison, Mo., Aug 18. Services were conducted two days later in Madison and she was buried in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Seefeldt had lived in Milan for about 15 years before moving to Missouri in 1943. Before moving to Milan she had taught school in Davenport, Ia. She was born Oct 23, 1895 in Davenport, Ia. the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Genslinger. She is survived by the widower, Lloyd Seefeldt who had been employed at the Moline Iron Works before the couple left Milan; four sons, Fred and Neil stationed by the Navy at Glenview Air Force Base, Lloyd Jr. of Fort Worth and Robert of Independence, Mo.; three daughters, Mrs. Cecil Jones, of Fort Worth, Mrs. Katherine Albrecht of Silvis and Mrs. Kenneth Erdmann of Matherville; a sister, Mrs. Erwin Meyers of Silvis, and 20 grandchildren. James R. Seefeldt Know Your Milan Firemen James R. Seefeldt Second captain of the Milan volunteer fire department is James R. Seefeldt, 38, of 309 3rd avenue west, a veteran of 10 years of fire-fighting service. This is his second hitch of one year as an officer of the department. Jim virtually is a Milan product, because this village has been his home since he was a year old. He received his education in Milan grade school and at Rock Island high school, from which he was graduated. He has seen Milan fire department develop as a going organization right along with the growth of Milan. This progress is not going to stop, in his opinion. "Milan has good prospects, judging by the way things are going," he said. The captain likes all phases of the fire department's program, whether it be responding to alarms, attending practce sesions or taking part in the organization's twice-monthly business meetings. "It all adds up to helping others in time of emergency," he said, referring to the department's role in the life of the community. Jim was born in Davenport Nov 7, 1919. In Nov of 1938 he married the former Margie McNeely of Rock Island. They are parents of a daughter Sharon and a son Jim. A daughter Judy died i 1947. Mr. Seefeldt was born in Buffalo, Iowa, Oct 26, 1865. He married Miss Effie Hobson, 48 years ago and she preceded him in death three years ago. Mr. Seefeldt was engaged in the monument business in Red Oak. Wife of Christian Seefeldt Jr. Mrs. Mathilda Bischoff Seefeldt Mrs. Mathilda Seefeldt, wife of Christian Seefeldt Jr., died Wednesday evening about 5 o'clock at her home, 2010 Mitchell street, Davenport. Her illness has been a prolonged one. She was 43 years, 8 months and 20 days old. Mathilda Bischoff was the daughter of Carl Bischoff and was born Aug 10, 1862, in Buffalo, Iowa, and was married in Buffalo and later moved to Davenport. Surviving are her husband, Christian Seefeldt Jr., her mother Mrs. Louise Fricke, one brother, Gustav Bischoff, and six children, Carl, Christine, Mayme, Oscar, Harold, and Harvey Seefeldt. SEEFELDT 23, DIES AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS Pneumonia and Scarlet Fever Cause Death of Young Business Man Harvey R. Seefeldt, 23, died at the home of his brother, Carl T. Seefeldt, 924 Tremont avenue at 8;30 p.m. Monday after an illness of one week. He was taken sick with pneumonia which developed into scarlet fever Monday morning and resulted in his death. Mr. Seefeldt was born in Davenport on Oct 7, 1904. At the age of five he moved to Houston, Texas with his parents and resided there until six months ago. He was employed in Daenport as special agent for the Guaranty Life insurance Co. His early education was received in the Houston schools and he was graduated from the Texas A. & M. college. He was a member of the Baptist church. She was stricken last evening and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Born Dec 27, 1890 in Andalusia, she was a daughter of Milton Buffum and Sophia Snell Buffum. She was educated in Andalusia and married Frank Seefeldt Dec 29, 1886, in Buffalo, Iowa. After their marriage the couple resided in Andalusia until 1905 when they moved to Big Island where they lived for five years. They moved from there to Davenport where they spent nine years, returning to Milan 27 yeas ago her home has since been made. Mrs Seefeldt was a member of the Milan Presbterian church and of the Ladies Aid Society and the Mary Martha Circle of that church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sept 14, 1930 and her parents, two sons. four sisters and one great-grandchild. Surviving are two sons. Mr. Seefeldt had been employed at the Farmall Works, International Harvester, until he retired due to failing health in 1952. He was an Army veteran of World War 11. Seefeldt, 67, 745 24th Ave., Rock Island, who died Tuesday at Veteran's Administration Hospital in Iowa City, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, with Rev. Edward Kuriscak, pastor of Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island, officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, where military rites will be conducted by Milan VFW 41-77 and American Leion Post 569. Mr. Seefeldt was born June 29, 1918, in Roberts County, S.D., a son of Frederick and Pauline Laboda Seefeldt. He moved to Rock Island in 1946, and married Laura B. Payne on May 5, 1951, in Davenport. He was employed as a supervisor at Lewis Rich Co. in Rock Island, and was a member of Milan American Legion 569 and a former member of Rock Island Moose Lodge. Serviving are his wife, two sons, Dennis M. of San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and Wayne A. of Texarkana, Texas; two daughters,Deborah L. Seefeldt of Moine and Robin E. She was the wife of Edwin Peterson, and died at 1 o'clock yesterday morning in the Moline Lutheran hospital. The Rev. F.J. Rolf, pastor of the Evangelical Church of Peace, will officiate at the funeral. Burial will be in the cemetery at Andalusia, ILL. The body was taken to the home from the Knox mortuary at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Ruth Seefeldt Ruth C. Seefeldt 80, Youngtown, Artz., formerly of Silvis, died Saturday, Nov 13, 1993 at Walter O. Boswell Memorial Hospital, Sun City. Memorial services were held at Sunland Mortuary, Sun City Ariz. The body was cremated. Burial is in Sunland Cemetery. The former Ruth Peterso was born Jan 6, 1913, in Hampton, the daughter of Arthur H. and Irene L. Edelman Peterson. She married Edmund Seefeldt in 1931. She was a retail sales clerk. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star, Silvis, and Caliche Garden Club, Youngtown. She moved to Arizona in 1971. Survivors include the widower; daughters Charlotte Johnson, Youngtown, Nancy King, Hampton, and Muriel Ornelis, Glendale, Ariz.,; a son, Edmund A. Seefeldt, Moline; five grandchildren, and a sister. Smith Milan Fireman Succumbs While Enroute to Fire ____________ A Milan volunteer fireman died of a heart attack while answering a call to a minor fire on Big Island last night. Pronounced dead upon arrival at a Milan physician's office was Homer Lyle Smith, 59, of 409 Third avenue West, Milan. He had been troubled with a heart condition the past year. Mr. Smith, well-known Milan sports enthusiast and one of the oldest Milan volunteer firemen, jumped aboard the Milan fire truck to answer the Big Island call. About a mile-and- half out of Milan other volunteers noticed he appeared ill. The truck was stopped and Mr. Smith was transferred to a private car which returned him to Milan. During his lifetime, Mr, Smith helped sponsor many youth recreational activities in Milan During the second World war he assisted Mel H.Hodge Rock Island playground and recreation commission super- intendant, in operation of the summer baseball leagues at North Douglas park. Distinct Loss Mr, Hodge said today that Mr, Smith's death is a distinct loss to the youth recreational program in Rock Island and Milan Mr, Smith was a member of the Milan and Rock Island Old Timers Baseball club. He bowled with the Milan Businessmen's league. A son George and Mary Barr Smith, he was born in Honey Grove, Texas, Sept 27, 1891 and came to Rock Island at an early age. He married Maude M. Seefeldt in Galesburg, Dec 8, 1914 and they resided in Davenport five years before moving to Milan 30 years ago. Prior to his retirement this year, Mr, Smith was employed 42 years by the Rock Island distinct office, United States engineers, He was of Presbyterian faith, Surviving are the widow; a son Lyle S. Smith of Portsmouth, Iowa; a brother , Joseph E. Smith of Muscatine; two sisters, Mrs. Thelma Christianson of Conesville, Iowa, and Mrs. Georgia M. Mills of Muscatine, and four grandchildren. Arthur H. Seefeldt Private funeral services for Arthur H. Seefeldt, 72, of Palm Springs, were held Monday at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Halligan-McCabe Funeral Home, Davenport is in charge of arrangements. Surviving are a son, Larry of Palm Springs; two grandchildren; four sisters, Antoinette Garry and Rose Allard, both of Bettendorf, Mary Allard of Davenport, and Isabelle Beckman of Beaverton, Ore.; and a brother, Joe of Davenport. Mary E. Barr Smith Mother of Milan Man Dies; Rites in Muscatine, IA. Mrs. George E. Smith, 66, year old resident of Fairport, Iowa and mother of Homer L. Smith of Milan, was claimed by death last Thursday evening after an illness of a week. Death occurred i Hershey hospital, Muscatine and was attributed to pneumonia. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2;30 o'clock from the Fairbanks Funeral home in Muscatine. Rev. .David Berger, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Muscatine, officiated and burial was made in Fairport cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Smith and son Lyle of Milan attended the rites. Mrs. Smith, whose maiden name was Miss Mary Elizabeth Barr, was born June 25,1868 in Dixon, ILL., the daughter of Isaac and Roxiana Goodspeed Barr. She received her education in the schools there and was married Dec 6, 1890, in Dixon, ILL. to George E. Smith. The couple resided for several years in Dixon and in 1903 moved to Rock Island. They resided there until 1923, when they moved to Fairport. Surviving are the widower; three sons, Homer of Milan, Joseph E. of Florence, N. J. , and Edgar of Cambridge, Mass; two daughters, Mrs. Thelma Christiansen of Conesville, IA. and Mrs. Georgia Geiger of Muscatine, and a brother, Charles Barr of Peoria, ILL. George E. Smith Stroke Fatal to George Smith at Fairport Home George E. Smith of Fairport, who has resided in that community for the past 14 years, died at his home at 4:15 p.m. Thursday after a two days illness, following a stroke. Previous to moving to Fairport he had resided in Rock Island for 20 years. He was employed as a light tender for U. S. engineers. Mr. Smith was born in Wheeling, W. Va., Dec. 31, 1868, the son of Joseph E. and Roxann McCombs Smith. He married Edith R. Dawson of Muscatine Feb. 12 of this year. Surviving are his wife and the following children, Homer L. Smith of Milan; Edgar E. Smith of Cambridge, Mass., Joseph E. Smith of Florence, N. J., Mrs. Thelma Christiansen of Conesville, Mrs. Georgia Geiger at home, two step-sons, Lyle L. Dawson of Burlington, Bruce K. Dawson of Rome, N. Y., a sister Mrs. Sid Stafford of Ohio; two half-sisters, Mrs. Bessie Lohr of Wheeling, W. Va., Miss Daisy Smith of Florida and one half-brother Carl Smith of Columbus, O. His father, Joseph E. Smith, died at Wheeling at the age of 96 years just two months ago. The body is at the Fairbanks Home for Funerals and rites will be held there at 2 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in the Fairport cemetery. Swaney 71, died of pneumonia at 11:50 o'clock last night in the home of her son, Elwood S. Baker, 3025 Seventh avenue. Death followed an illness of two years. Mr. Swaney, whose maiden name was Miss Cora V. Brown, was born May 7, 1864, in Waterbury Center, Vt., the daughter of John and Sarah Brown. She moved to Fulton, ILL., with her parents when a small child and received her education there. She painted for many years in oils and water colors. She resided for 20 years in Clinton, Iowa, and was for a number of years secretary of the Clinton Lodge of the Fraternal Aid union. She was of Methodist faith. Later she resided with a son, Guy B. Simonds, in Chicago, and moved to Rock Island after his death Aug. 10, 1929. Surviving are her son, Mr. Baker; a brother, Charles Brown of Earlville, Iowa, and five grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Emma Hall, died seven years ago. The body was removed to the Knox mortuary chapel, where funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The Rev. Ernest J. Campbell, pastor of First Methodist church, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Rock Island, ILL. |

| Mrs. Fred SCHOELLMANN, 88, resident of Milan for the last sixty-seven years, died at 11:55 this morning in her residentce. Death was due to the infirmities of age. Mrs. SCHOELLMANN was born in Franklin, Pa, on Nov 7, 1849. Her maiden name was Miss Mary Leibrick and she was married to Fred SCHOELLMANN on July 30, 1868, the couple moving to Milan in April, 1871. Mr and Mrs. SCHOELLMANN celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in 1932. Mr. SCHOELLMANN died Jan 17, 1933, at the age of 97. Mrs. SCHOELLMANN was a member of the Presbyterian church Milan and the ladies' aid society of the church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs Mary TAYLOR of Buffalo, N.Y.; Mrs. James HOBBS of Joliet and Mrs. Emma HONENS of Oak Park, and three grandchilden. | ? Charles Hopkins SPENCER, died Saturday last. He was born in this city on Nov 18, 1836 and was nearly 18 years old. He attended school at Mount Morris from the fall of 1852 to the spring of 1854 since which time he has been a student at Iowa Collage, Davenport.
