Eugene L. Mewes Tuesday May 7, 1991 Milan____Eugene L. "Grandpa Gene" Mewes Sr., 82,of 831 10th St. West, died Tuesday at Pathway Hospice Unit at United Medical Center, Moline. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hodgson Funeral Home Ltd., Rock Island The body has been cremated. There will be no visitation. He retired in 1974 after 20 years at Frank's Foundry, Moline. Before that, he worked at Gardner Danver, Quincy, ILL Mr. Mewes married Dorothy Courtney in 1930 in Palmyra, Mo. She died in 1976 He enjoyed yard sales and fishing and had repaired bicycles. Memorials may be made to Pathway Hospice. Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Edmonds, Rock Island, sons, Robert E. East Moline; and Eugene jr. and Terry L., both of Milan; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Martha Hagenbaumer and Geneva Kinder, both of Quincy, ILL. Anna Marie (Frederick) Mewes Woman 36, Mother of 10 Mrs, Anna Mewes, wife of August Mewes, Twenty- fourth and Jackson street, Melrose township. died at 4:45 o'clock yesterday morning as the result of a hemorrhage, according to the verdict of the jury empancled by Coroner Lawrence Amen, who conducted an inquest in the home yesterday afternoon. The woman, who was 36 years old last October, was the mother of 10 children. The oldest one is dead, and if the child were alive it would be between 19 and 20 years old, the husband of the woman testified. Within 15 minutes after she suffered the attack, death resulted. The funeral of the late Mrs. Anna Marie Mewes, will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home, Twenty-fourth and Jackson streets, and at 3:30 o'clock at the Salem church. Interment in Greenmount cemetery. Friends invited to attend. The service at the home private, but friends invited to the church and cemetery. (This is my Greatgrandmother ) |

| John MOORE, a farmer living in Coe 5 miles east of Port Byron, died Thursday; his wife died on the next day, Friday. John MOORE was born in 1829 in Westmoreland Co., Pa. and came west, settling in Zuma twp. in 1851. He has since lived in Canoe Creek twp. and Coe twp. the latter being his home for 25 years. He died on March 19th. He married Sarah BRYAN in 1860 and they are survived by 2 children - Mrs. Nettie HASSON of Moline and Miss Sadie, living at home. He is also survived by 2 brothers and a sister - Wm. W., a farmer in Zuma twp; Jacob of Akron, Ohio; and Ester FRANKS of Westmoreland Co, Ohio. His wife, Mrs Sarah BRYAN MOORE was born in 1845 in Belmonth Co, Ohio and moved with her parents west when quite young. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and is survived by 2 brothers, Thomas BRYAN of Bouton, Dallas Co, Iowa and Samuel B. BRYAN of Zuma twp; and by 5 sisters - Mrs. Simon MICHAELS, Mrs. Jas. SEARL, Mrs. Wm. W. MOORE, of Zuma twp; Mrs. George WAINWRIGHT of Hampton twp; and Mrs. Ed T. HOLSAPPLE of Davenport, Iowa. The funeral for both was March 22nd with burial near the Rose Hill Church, on the Old Bryan farm. ( Friday, March 20, 1891) ( March 27th 1891) |

| John METZGAR, died at his home 5 miles east of Port Byron on Friday 18th, aged 78 years. The funeral will be today at the Fairfield Church. John METZGAR of Coe twp. a county pioneer, He was born on little Sewickly Creek, Westmoreland Co. Pa. on August 2, 1813 and grew to manhood in his native country. When 15 years old, he began to learn the shoemaker's trade at which he worked until 1835 when he came west, first to Pike Co, Missouri and in the fall of 1836, to Rock Island. He was the first shoemaker there. He was postmaster for 3 years and in 1853 bought 80 acres of land in Coe twp. where he has since resided. For 6 years the family occupied a log cabin. His wife died May 15, 1884. He is survived by 6 children - Mary, David C., Martha L., Emma B., Lucy A., and William F. The will of the late John METZGAR of Coe was probated Monday. It had been written on Nov 24, 1888 and witnessed by Hugh McCall and J.W. SIMONSON. Daughters named were Mrs. Emma B. JONES; Mary RAYMOND; Martha MURRAY; Lucy WILLIAMS. David C. and W.F. | John MANNIS, drowned last evening in the Mississippi River. He was from the city of Tipperary, Ireland, and had been in this country about 6 years. He has no relatives in this reggion but dose have a brother in Canada or Maine. He was about 35 years old. ( Wednesday, Oct 24, 1855 ) |

| Port Byron; George S. MOORE, of this place died May 29th, aged 45 years. He was born in Lunenburgh, Vermont. He had been a resident of Port Byron for 17 years. He leaves a wife and family to mourn him. ( Wednesday, June 6, 1854 ) |

| James Alexander MACFIE, son-in-law of Col. C.W. DURHAM, died yesterday at Watertown. He would have been 40 years old on December 16th. He is survived by his wife and a brother William T.
