Bubble blowing is a really wonderful pastime. Wherever you are, whenever you need to break the ice, or feeling a little bored, or just like brightening things up... bubbles are all you need ;) How I started out I bought some bubble mixture bottles at Gone Bazaar for $AU1 each. I started bringing them to parties just for fun, but soon found I was wanting to bring them everywhere I went- to lectures, to picnics, everything. Never looked back since ;) The bubble connection People began to recognise me by the trail of bubbles I left behind in my wake... by blowing bubbles around campus, at the bus stop, in town, I actually have made quite a few new friends. People just seem to really, really love bubbles- I've had so many strangers smile at me as they walked by, or laugh and try to catch a bubble without actually making contact with me. I've often given away a few bubble blowers to people who show a real interest in bubble blowing- the more the merrier ;) How do I start? It's pretty simple. You can make your own bubble mixture from a common household detergent and water (experiement to see what mix gives the best results) or buy a pre-mixed bottle yourself. Most commercial bubble mixes come with their own blowers (usually attached to the lid on the inside). You can make your own blowers out of almost anything- string on a stick, plastic straws and stickytape- just use whatever you have available. It's an inexpensive way to spend your free time and you'll get a lot of satisfaction of watching them fly away as you talk to someone, or wait in line for something. Anywhere, anytime Almost true. Most people don't mind you blowing bubbles around them, and often want a go themselves ^_^ However, use your common sense. Most lecturers don't mind me blowing a few bubbles at the beginning and ends of lectures, but I never do it while they're speaking and they want everyone's full attention. Blowing them indoors is usually fine (though it depends on what mix you're using- coloured or "longlasting" bubbles can make a mess if you aren't careful). I find bubble-blowing to be one of the easiest, most relaxing and most portable pastimes I've ever tried. Why not have a go? (SOON the bubbles will take over the world... yes, yes... fly my pretties, fly, fly!!!) |

Things to try Try experimenting with different kinds of mixtures, diameter and shape of blower, and method of blowing (sweeping the blower through the air, blowing air through it yourself, standing behind an aeroplane, etc etc ;) There are many things you can try with bubbles. If you learn something interesting about them, or have a cool story or experiemnt to relate, why not drop me a line? :) Future Experiments Experiments I will soon try with bubbles:
