A Brief History of Grapefruit
Who, me?
I like sitting in trees in the wind and looking through the branches. I used to do it all the time as a kid. I don't much any more. I guess that's one thing about growing up. You don't get to sit back and observe so much. Unless you're a security warden in an asylum. Or a psychologist.
Indeed *nods wisely*
I was born in 1983, and still remember the telephone number of the first house I ever lived in. You'd find this a little less impressive if you knew that I've lived in the same house all my life... heh.
The place I live: Perth, Western Autralia. I really love Perth. I've been to other cities which might have been bigger and had longer waking hours, but Perth'll always be my baby ;)
I really enjoy reading. It's possible that I might have spent more time alive reading than sleeping... along with listening to music, playing my N64 and snorkelling, it's my favourite thing to do...
I spent many lunchtimes in Primary School sitting by a tree that I had adopted as mine in the playground, though at times it felt more as though it had adopted me. I hid amongst the leaves and the shade alone and sprinkled sugar on the ground near it a few times due to the notion I had that this would help it grow.
I'm the kid who entered public speaking contests, I'm the kid who was too shy to talk to anyone at the school dances. I'm the kid who got chosen last for team games, I'm the kid who didn't know how to pronounce "subtle" until she was fourteen but could spell arachnophobia when she was eight.
I won a scholarship to an all-girls highschool in 1995.
I used to have a plastic mouse that glowed in the dark. It was missing a tail but for me as a five year old child it seemed to hold some sort of occult fascination. I'd sit and play with it in the light, then cup it in my hands and put an eye to them, observing the faint green glow. I really like the way light and shadow can totally change the way something looks. For that reason, I love black and white photography. I love the way you can capture the textures on a piece of photographic paper, and when you look at it, it's like your eyes can feel the picture... it sounds odd, but it really does describe how I see good black and white photos...
I also love developing them. I spent many lunchtime hours in my last years at highschool in the developing room, bathed in red light.
After highschool was over, I decided to go and study Multimedia at university. Which brings us pretty much up to date.
University. It's quite a nifty place. There's so many oportunities to begin to flesh out your dreams. I've always had a desire to make stuff up. Telling stories, whether it's with words or pictures, movement or sound, has always been my dream. That's what I love about multimedia, the ability it gives you to tell interactive stories. Bring the narrative back to the audience and make it a two-way thing.
Well, storytelling has always been interactive to an extent. The more the better, in my opinion. They're more fun that way :)
I'd like to do a Biology degree as well(not to mention psycology, philosophy, physics, teaching and arts degrees also) but I might never get out of Uni if I did everything I'd like to.
I have been a described as a nut, an eccentric, a frog and a panpipe, and it's all true, or near enough as should be.
I am the Celestial Grapefruitfish of Destiny. Hear me roar.
