HIV-positive Muppet to hit Sesame Street !

July 12th 2002

An HIV-positive Muppet will soon be joining the cast of Sesame Street during the coming months, as part of an ambitious plan to bring the Character to Europe and the United States! Sesame Street believes that the inclusion of an HIV-positive muppet will help delete some of the stigma related to children with aids and show children that its ok touch, hug, and be friendly with HIV-infested children.

This issue has raised some serious concerns such as : How will the issues involved with sexual transmission of HIV be told to young children? and How will this effect my children?

The Sasquatch Militia likes the idea of promoting tolerance for the stigmatized and oppressed, but we believe that they have chosen the wrong category of oppression to exploit! Why not add a Sasquatch Character instead? We are not faced with the deadly disease of HIV, rather with an even more vicious pathogen, the disease of intolerance, bigotry, and false misconceptions, which must be erased in order to provide young Sasquatches with a safe environment, which is conducive to the quest for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness!

What Character would be more acceptable to children, a young exhuberant Sasquatch, who defends the quest for tolerance and equality, or a diseased and sick muppet, who cannot fully relate to young children the way a Sasquatch can? Sasquatches have no TV shows, no forum to promulgate tolerance, and very little media coverage (Absolutely no Positive media reporting has been done on Sasquatches in over 2 years!). On the other hand a powerful AIDS lobby is able to use TV to push its admirable quest for acceptance to the American people. Sasquatches have no such outlet, and desparately need a way to promote their natural proclivity for tolerance and inclusion to the world and solar system abroad.

Its time that the Anti-Sasquatch media begin to include more diverse opinions, such as the opinions of Sasquatches, whom they viciously slander with false steoreotypes and incredibly rare, but wicked, tales of Sasquatches paralyzing young dogs. While these reports are true, only 1 % of all Sasquatches ever paralyze a dog, and many are acts of self-defense against intolerant dogs.

We applaud Sesame's Streets inclusion of other groups, which are denied basic rights. But we believe the wrong character was chosen and we implore Sesame Street to make the truly noble decision and include a Sasquatch or Florida Skunk Ape in their program. Maybe they could include both the HIV-Infected Muppet as well as a Sasquatch! What more of a potent duality of tolerance could we possible ask for?
