Unicorn Hobby Company Beretta 92f Hop-up

Reviewed by INFRARED

UHC's Beretta 92f is my first introduction into the company's non-miniature Airsoft guns. It is of fairly high quality and is reminiscent of Marui's M9.

Appearance

The UHC 92f is very similar to Marui's with a few minor exceptions: the finish isn't quite as even, and the parts don't quite fit together as smoothly as the Marui model's. However, this gun cost about half what the Marui copy did, and it still looks darn good. The 92f seems well-proportioned, and the magazine looks much like the Marui magazine. The sights are nothing special by Airsoft standards, but the rear sight has a small indentation at the bottom of the sight notch where a spot of white paint would go to improve sight picture acquisition - a drop of white paint on the front sight in addition to one on the rear would give this Airsoft a sight picture much like the real thing.

Function

As far as function goes, please see the above link to my review of Marui's M9/92f for general aspects and concerns with this design. In particular, the UHC Beretta feels good but not as "solid" as Marui's gun. The trigger pull is similar, but feels a little softer and less crisp. The slide action is smooth, but the slide needs to be released to snap forward quickly, otherwise it can stick open about a quarter of an inch.

Accuracy

The UHC 92f's Hop-up system seems a little better tuned than Marui's surprisingly. At seven yards with .2g ammo, the group size was rather large but at least the center of the group was only an inch or two above the point of aim, rather than six or more inches with the Marui gun. With .25g ammo, the group tightened up considerably and was just an inch to the left of the target at seven yards.

Overall Impressions

The UHC 92f is a good bargain - half the cost of the Marui equivalent, but with good accuracy. The looks suffer slightly (but not enough to make it unattractive), but the function is good. If you're looking to get into Airsoft cheaply, or you want a "beater" gun for a backup in situations where you wouldn't risk damaging a more expensive Airsoft, then this could be the one for you. This gun would be fine for general use in all-spring tournaments if used with .25g BBs.
