Shadow Warrior's Review of the Tokyo Marui Sig P228 Hop-up

First Impression

I was very impressed by this gun at first sight. Tokyo Marui did a fine job of replicating this handgun as an airsoft. The logos and grips are nicely done and in all of the right places. One difference that caught my eye immediately was that the barrel was extended 1cm from the end of the gun, it was also painted in orange. I purchased this gun from Miltech and I have to admit that other than the gun I was upset with what I received. The package was folded shut and it did not come with any ammo or a tracer adapter. As I said before this gun has good looks as well as a nice feel. The grips are very comfortable. The black matte finish is sweet and the weight is proper (not as much as the real gun).

Function

The Sig also functions well. The weighted magazine slides in the well nicely and has little room to shake around. When the magazine release is pushed the mag falls out without pulling. The slide pull is firm and when pulled back the ejection port opens which is a nice touch. The trigger pull is a little long but this isn't a great downfall. The sights are fixed but they line up nicely. I am going to add a little luminescent paint to mine for faster target alignment. [update] The Sig has jammed once, but the jam was easily cleared since the ejection port opens when the slide is cycled.

Accuracy

I found this gun to be accurate and consistent. At 21 feet I had a nice solid grouping that was a inch and a half diameter with a couple stray. I was quite impressed. I found that at shorter distances the gun shot a little high and to the right, which is caused by the Hop-up. The sights are well aligned. It is pretty powerful too. It made a nice dent in a half inch piece of Styrofoam.

Target, seven yards, approximately 40 rounds .2g

Overall

I think this is a great gun! I personally love the feel, look and size of the P228. The P228 is a more compact version of the P226 and is a compromise between a Colt .25 and an Automag III. Its function is above average. Its accuracy is impressive. And it looks great! I recommend this as my spring handgun of choice.
