History of Sa-SKIT-toon

Sa-SKIT-toon was founded by three drama camp friends in June of 2003. These three Grade 8 boys first called their comedy group Three Guys with a Camera. They wrote, performed, filmed, and edited their own comedy, with help from their parents. In December of that year, another boy and a girl joined the group, and the group finished their first video, entitled Partners in Nonsense. The name of the group was changed to Sa-SKIT-toon, because the group now had more than three members, and one of them was a girl. (Somehow, Four Guys and a Girl with a Mom Running the Camera didnt have the same ring!).

The group continued writing and performing comedy but had no venue to perform. Then they heard about the Youth venue of the 2004 Saskatoon International Fringe Festival, and it was their first real performance. They finished writing the already started Star Warz: the One Part Trilogy for the Fringe Festival, and recruited extras for the Fringe. When the fringe was done, they inducted their extras as permanent members of the group. Another member joined, which put the group at nine adolescent members, performing original material.

Focus shifted to filmmaking for much of 2005, but, in late 2005, 5 members of Sa-SKIT-toon decided that they wanted to get back onstage.
To that end, the Improv Troupe was born (well, it had its roots in previous events...  it wasn't born so much as it evolved into).  In 2005, the troupe spent most of their time performing at charity events which led up to their 3 shows at the 2006 Saskatoon International Fringe Theatre Festival.  The shows recieved excellent reviews and were well recieved by audiences.

Sa-SKIT-toon once again expanded when it welcomed two new members into the improv group. The group is currently in preparation for their show at the 2007 Saskatoon Fringe Theatre Festival entitled
New and Improv-ed.

Although school often limits how much is possible, Sa-SKIT-toon continues to write and perform.
