| "These are the voyages of the Star Ship Enterprise, it's continuing mission to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before." Over 20 years after the first series aired, Gene Roddenberry brought Star Trek back to television in 1987 with the new series Star Trek: The Next Generation. This new series was set farther in the future with a new ship (USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D) and crew. The series built upon the strengths of the previous series while adding state of the art visual effects. The cast has been hailed as Star Trek's best, lead by their captain and classically trained actor Patrick Stewart. During it's seven years on the air, The Next Generation became the most popular syndicated show on television. After it's final season in 1994 the cast took a short break before filming their first movie Generations. Following the success of Generations, they returned twice more to theaters in First Contact and Insurrection. (text taken from www.syfyportal.com) |
