Video Tweaking Tips

Lower graphics details. Find screen resolution which suits your system. I play on PII 400MHz, 192MB RAM, Matrox Millenium G400MAX and my settings are 800x600 32bit colour. Framerates are good and there are no hickups.

In the game browser, under 'Preferences,' turn the model detail to 'low' and the world texture detail to 'medium' ('low' makes the game look nasty). Next, turn the dynamic lighting and show decals off. Now, enable 'timedemo' mode in preferences, or type “timedemo 1” in the console, play for 30 seconds and then disable it. Now look at the results in the console... We don't care about high FPS, we're concerned with 'low' and 'average.' For average FPS, we’d like to see anything from 55-65FPS, and for low, we’d like to see above 30.

Under 'Display' in the preferences or the heading of [WinDrv.WindowsClient] in the UnrealTournament.ini:

Set ScreenFlash=False

SlowVideoBuffering=False

Under 'Rendering' and 'D3D,' change these settings:

VolumetricLighting=False

HighDetailActors=False

DettailTextures=False

Here are some stuff you can adjust in advanced tab of video driver preferences:
Coronas, set this to True. This is the haze of light that appears around light sources in the game, such as lamps in the game. Set it to False if you need extra performance.
Detail textures, set to False by default as it has a large performance hit.
HighDetailActors to True for better visuals. Set it to False to improve performance
Shiny surfaces, this is a minor cosmetic setting & for performance reasons you should set it to False.
UseAGPTextures, this setting can be used to force textures to be uploaded into local video memory only (significantly faster than AGP texturing). Try setting it to False if you have a graphics card such as a GeForce or Voodoo 5.
UseMultitexture, set this to True. It will improve performance on most cards.
UsePreCache, set to this to False to eliminate the pre-caching that you might experience.It eliminates the crashes that occur with some graphics cards when precaching.
UseTrilinear, set this to True for improved visual quality. It should be set to False if you have less than 16MB of memory on your graphics card.
UseTrippleBuffering, set this to True to improve visual quality, but it will take up extra video memory. It should be set to False if you have less than 16MB of memory on your graphics card.
UseVSync, set this to True v-sync to ensure that you get no display anomalies in games. Only set it to False if you’re benchmarking the game performance.
VolumetricLighting, set this to True for better visuals. Setting this to False will have a big improvement on frame rate.
