Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art
This is the first art museum that build in Japan after the war in 1989.  It is a combination design of traditional Japanese storehouse and ancient European plaza, and it was build by following the surrounding landscape.  The shape of the circle in the center indicating where the bomb at dropped.  The many gabled roofs come togther as an entity like that of a village the symbiosis between part and whole.  It had a collection of;  Important works that show the flow of contemporary art since the end of World War II.  Excellent works that show a relationship between Hiroshima and contemporary art.  Superior works of promising young artists.
The building design won the grand prize at the 5th World Festival of Architecture held in Vienna, and received the AIJ Award from the Architectural Institute of Japan.
