April 2007: Meru

Rojewero River
  Rojewero River, Meru NP

Over Easter break, we travelled up to Meru NP with some friends.  Karna and Lester did not join us as they were visiting a friend in Kisumu (Western Kenya).  Trip started out a bit on a bad leg; we had reserved two banda's in the park through KWS in Nairobi, but when we arrived, we found our banda's had been given away.  Aaarh!  I was furious.  Eventually they found us a house to stay in, which was even nicer than the banda's, so it actually worked out better for us.

Meru is much lower than Nairobi, around 3,000 feet, so it was hot, around 36 degrees C (98 degrees F).  One of the campsites had a pool though, so we made a point of stopping by for a daily afternoon swim.  The pool was way too chlorinated, but it was better than sweating out the hottest part of day.

We had two good days of touring in the park, bonfires at night, and plenty of food.  We had Easter egg hunts at our lodging on Sunday.
