August 2007: Masai Mara

Lion with kill
In August, 2007, we travelled back to the Masai Mara National Reserve
with friends Bernhard and Fazilla to see the annual wildebeest
migration. In September and October, over 1 million wildebeest
and zebra migrate from the Serengeti plains in Tanzania into the Masai
Mara. One of the more dramatic parts of the migration is when the
wildebeest and zebra cross the fast-flowing and crocodile infested Mara
River. The girls and I witnessed several crossings last
year on our safari with Sheema but
Ruma wasnt with us so she still hadn't seen one. So, we were off
once again to the Mara.
We camped for 3 nights at the Aruba campground near the Talek
gate. We like
this campground very much: it's clean, safe, and very comfortable.
We saw lots of animals, including many lions as you can see from the
photos. We also saw several wildebeest crossings of the Mara
River, which was the primary goal of our trip. On our last day,
we took a drive through the Musiara Swamp, which is a part of the Mara
that we had never been to before so we enjoyed that quite a bit.
