September 2007: On Safari with Anders & Jannie

Crested Crane, Amboseli NP
In September, 2007, Anders and Jannie Lovendahl gave us a visit.
Anders was an exchange student from Denmark who stayed with my folks in
Seattle back in 1994. It was great having my "little brother"
here for a visit. We first took them up to Lake Nakuru NP where
we saw lots of animals, including black rhino, lions, and even a
leopard! After that, Anders and Jannie flew to the Masai Mara for
a 3 day safari. They stayed at the Mara Siria camp. Coming
back, we took them over to the Karen Blixen museum (Karen was Danish
after
all) and the Giraffe Center. After this, we
travelled down to Tsavo West NP for two days and finally over to
Amboseli NP.
In Tsavo, we stayed at the Kitani Banda's, one of our favorite
camps. We also spent an afternoon viewing animals at the
waterhole at the Kilagoni lodge. This is sort of reverse
safari. Instead of going out and finding animals in the car, you
relax at the lodge and watch the animals as they come to you. We
saw lots of animals during this second trip, but unfortunately we didnt
get any good views of Mt.
Kilimanjaro due to clouds. We also got a severe punture in one of
the tires early on in the trip (the tire is toast) so we
were happy not to have any other tire problems during the trip.
