The Eight Virtues
of the Avatar
The Eight Virtues of Britannia were
invented by Lord British (Richard Garriot). In Ultima IV - The Quest of
the Avatar - a stranger came to the world of Britannia and became the
embodiment of these Eight Virtues, by succeeding in many quests and trials.
This system is as simple as it is perfect. To spread the word of the virtues,
we will describe them here in short, giving longer explanations later.
The basic three principles of Good are Love, Truth and Courage.
From these are derived the Virtues:
From Love comes Compassion. From Truth comes Honesty. From Courage comes Valor.
Love and Truth combine into Justice.
Love and Courage combine to Sacrifice.
Truth and Courage combine to Honour.
All three principles of Love, Truth and Courage combine into Spirituality.
While the absence of these three principles would be Pride, and this in no Virtue but a Vice, the Virtue of Humility is formed.
