I don't know anyone who at one time in their lives hasn't wished to be a movie star, a director, producer or in some way work in the movie business.
But this is a dirty business, it's not all peaches and cream. You can be a star one day, then WHAM! You're Hollywood's 'What Ever Happened To.......?' A movie can make or break your career. How well a movie does in it's first weekend can and usually does decide the future job offers you will be getting.....the fame can drive you nuts, paparatzzi snapping pictures of you as you step out of your shower, can't go anywhere without fans running up to you squeeling and demanding an autograph (I've found only the really mature fans actually ask for an autograph, everyone else demands) You take a opposite-sex friend to a amusement park to help comfort them in a time of need, and every newpaper and rag has you dating them! And not to mention how hard it can be just getting your pinkie toe in the bloody door! GAH!
That's why I perfer the life BEHIND the camera....I'm ignored by press (usually) and fans (constantly) but known to the people who really count. Directors, actors, producers, studio chairmen, ect.
Were you to walk down a street in LA or Beverly Hills and ask "Do you know who Sarabi Vosloo is?" more in likely you'll get "No." for an answer. (One out of ten might ask if the person is related to Arnold Vosloo....or you'll get something about the Lion King.) I like being the unknown force behind the scenes. Animals are so much easier to work with...... sometimes.
I have pulled together all the movies that thrill me to death, some I've worked on, some I've only been on set for, and some haven't even been made yet! Take a look around and maybe you will get the feel what it's like being caught up in what is known as the Movie Industry.
Oh, and watch where you step....there's bullshit constantlly flying everywhere! And it's not coming from me.... |
