This here is Snoggie snail who is sadly deceased, but you'll admit he was very handsome
These are some of the snails that are now deceased :o(
Pickles
This was the baby immaculata that I sadly did for with an overdoes of Pasta. He was the 2nd snail I had named pickles (A british snail also ended up with that name). I only had him for a couple of months, from August to October 2001.
Chewey
Chewey was one of 8 babies that I got from a local reptile centre. He and Rob. the Bruce were the only 2 I named, and eventually the only 2 I kept. He was quite big, - his shell was about 12cm long. I had no reason for calling him Chewey, it just sounded nice. Chewey and Brucie both had typical shells, with brown and yellowey stripes and patterns. Chewey died aged (I think) about 5 but I wasn't actually keeping count....
Robert the Bruce
I named this one after my good friend Robert, when some friends decided he was actually Robert the Bruce, and I decided he looked like a snail. Brucie was in the end a little smaller than Chewey. He died a little younger too, aged around 4.
Delilah
I smuggled two snails into my room at university in my first term there, and they've been back with me every term since. We're not actually allowed pets! Delilah sadly died after a prolonged illness in July 2001, aged nearly 2 years. Her partner/brother (??!) Samson is still with us ATM though and doing well.
Pinky and Perky
These were baby South African Pale Landsnails, - species Achatina *something*! I got them from Cicada and sadly neither survived all that long. They were still tiny babies when they died. The special (and rather beautiful) features of this snail is the almost white body colour, with a yellow hue to it, and the slightly more rounded tip to the shell. This can especially be seen when comparing to a fulicia, whose shell is very pointed. The shell, like the body, is also much paler than that of fulicia.
Snoggie
Snoggie was my favouite snail of all time. Sadly he died in July 2000. I think he probably died of old age, as there had been no sign of his shell growing or repairing itself for quite some time. I also think that he was originally taken from the forest in Africa or somewhere else hot, because he didn't look at all like a captively bred snail, although he was definitly the same breed (fulicia) as all my other snails. He was fully grown when I got him, and his shell was a very different texture to the usual "tank snail" shell. It also had deep scratches and scars where he had obviously been injured and then repaired himself. His body was a slighty different colour too, but that slowly changed over the first few months that I had him. He also ate far more than the other snails and was far bigger. His shell measured about 13.5cm. I had snoggie for about 2 years, but as I said, I think he actually died a very old snail!
John, Paul, Ringo and George
Well, guess who I named these guys after! They were my first ever snails and I was given them for christmas by my Grandmother and my great Aunt. They were the coolest present ever! I think I was not very good at loooking after them back then, as they didn't live very long (I think about a year). But in that time they had so many babies that I was totally overrun with snails! When they died I continued to look after all the offspring until eventually my parents made me sell most of them, - as they were taking over the entire house!
