Achatina albopicta

This is yet another very uncommon snail to find captive in the U.K. A gift from a friend, it is still juvenile, and I have no idea what it's final markings will be like. It's maximum size is fairly small at 3 to 4 inches. It likes to burrow for hours at a time and only comes out for food. Since I aquired it the shell has developed a pinkey tinge to the tip. The tip is a lot more "pointey" than is indicated in the below picture.. It is beautifully marked with a blotchy striped patterning and it's body is pale brown. The new growth that has occurred in the time I have had the snail contains less markings, and is almost entirely a pale beige. The dark marks on the rest of the shell have remained however. I will update this page whenever I find out something new about this little beauty, but for now here is a picture to illustrate the shell pattern.
