| I was first first interested in Xolo's for their unique looks and lack of grooming ( so I thought). Being a groomer, you don't want to be doing it on your own dogs. I found an ad in a dog magazine that lead me to Leah Getty of Pastel's Xoloitzicuintli and originally asked for a male. I waited for 3 years for my first dog. I would stop by to visit every time I was in the city just to see her wonderful dogs and when she called me to ask if I wanted a female, I agreed. Cielo (Pastel's Friend of a Lifetime) was a total dream. Leah showed her for me for the first until I learned abit more and took over for myself. She was and still is my mentor in the dog world. When Cielo was around 3 we sent her to Europe to be shown and bred. She did fabulous, winning numerous trophies and Best of Breed in mini's at the World Dog Show in Helsinki, Finland in 1998. Then she came home with 8 awesome puppies. Since then I have been meeting new people and holding my own with my showing. I work in the adoption and rescue field. This has led me to see that breeding should ONLY be done selectively and rarely. I haven't been showing as much this past year but plan on getting back into more showing next year. I have been showing alittle bit more this year. I've been showing a toy xolo, Flan, for Kay Lawson of California and a bulldog, Tonka, for Pam Mitchell and Derek Kallechy of Brooks, AB. I don't show any of my own dogs anymore. They have all been retired and altered. I am also the corresponding Secretary for the Xoloitzicuintli Club of America and the Canadian contact for the Xolo Rescue League. I also foster for the French Bulldog Rescue Network. I live in a small town in southeastern Alberta and love to travel. Every chance I get I go to the Xolo Club's National Specialty and have been to a few World Shows. Without my dogs I would have never seen as much as I have. They are wonderful but not all breeds are for everyone. |
