"Sleep," whispered the rain....
She opened her eyes, alert.  She could hear the low rumble of thunder in the distance.  She lay there for a moment, watching the faint flashes of light dance off the walls of the bedroom.  She rolled out of bed, finding her way in the dark.
"Where are you going?" he asked.
"Nowhere.  I'll be right back.  Go back to sleep."
She walked through the hallway feeling the boards creak beneath her steps.  Then, quietly unlocking the door, she went outside to stand beneath the infinate black sky.  The clouds were rolling in now, the lightning getting brighter by the moment.  Inside, he pushed himself up enough to look out the window, watching her stand alone in the humid night air.  He got up to get a drink of water and waited for her return.
As she walked through the bedroom door, he looked at her with inquiring eyes as if to ask if she was alright.  Her soft blue eyes answered his question with a look that meant, "yeah, I'll be fine."  She reassured him with a gentle smile, then slid into bed, pulling the cool covers up to her neck.  She kissed him on the cheek and they soon drifted off to sleep as the steady sound of rain lured them into unconsciousness.
"The Scream"
A poetic tribute to the work of Edvard Munch.
------------------------------
The sky was grey that afternoon -
A grey and red and yellow.
Something strange was in the air
Ironic sort of mellow.

Anticipating dread, no doubt
Like prey before a kill
I could feel it in my blood
As time came to a still.

But what disturbed me even more
Were all the passers-by
Wasting not a single thought
About the haunting sky.

It felt like death was lurking here
The waters felt it, too.
This was nature's mighty shriek
That chilled me through and through.
"Pen on a Chain"
------------------------------
You can use me
Don't abuse me
Cuz I'm here for everyone
Such a slut.  And
Ironically
Under normal conditions
You wouldn't want me -
At all.
But HERE I AM
You get a taste for free
How I... perform
I'm a temptation,
But because of this
c-h-a-i-n
You have to leave me behind
For the next person.
