Lesson 19: A Day of Enlightenment (2-3 days may be necessary)

What’s on for today and why?

Students will do their group presentations, displaying for the class their month of hard work, research, and analysis.  Their final portfolios will also be collected after their performance is complete with all components.

The presentation is meant to inform the whole class about what each group had been doing and to get students to take pride in their work.  This also helps with public speaking.  The final portfolio forces students to compile their own work and to really make it effective pieces.  They had time to be working on these all along so they should be impressive.

What to do?

After each presentation, that group hands in their portfolios.  Students in desks will also be evaluating the presentations with peer response sheets (attached).

How’d it go?

If students were attentive during each other’s presentations, and each group was able to gain that attentiveness through the way they conveyed their information, presenting is a success!  If the teacher gained further insight through the materials and forms of analysis the students used, the students succeeded in critical analysis. If in looking through the portfolios the teacher is impressed by the level of work, the students succeeded!  The presentation will be assessed according to the rubric and added to the portfolio score. The entire portfolio will be graded, internet journals, Webquest project and all, according to the checklist.
