Shadda, Bearer of the Fire Ring
Name: Shadda

Race: Elf

Sex: Female

Class: Mage

Age: 17 (human years)

Ring: Fire

Appearance: Shadda's thick, wavy hair is a red of an almost electric brightness; she wears it loose or braided into a crown around her head (it usually covers her pointed ears). Her eyes are a deep charcoal gray flecked with gold; they contrast strikingly with her pale, freckled skin and brilliant hair. Her facial features and body have the otherworldly beauty of the elven race, although her hair is an unusual hue. She is about five foot two inches and weighs eighty-five pounds. Her clothing is pratical--she wears a weather-stained indigo cloak, a fitted green shirt, rough black pants, and dark boots of weather-cracked leather that reach to just below her knees. Old black gloves with the fingers cut off hide the brands that were burned into the back of her hands. She carries a sturdy staff and a bag (contains black scarf, water, knife, rope, bandages). Her ring hangs from a chain around her neck, over her heart, and is kept under her shirt. Her left leg has been broken and mended badly, and she walks with a limp. She has various scars on her body.

Background: Shadda was born during a wild storm. Her mother's family had held the ring for several centuries. When she was young, a group of soldiers under the command of Lord Dars attacked her village. Shadda, hidden with the ring, was the sole survivor of the massacre. The next day as the soldiers dragged the dead bodies to the town square and looted the homes, Shadda was discovered. The power of the ring, however, caused the soldiers to take pity on her and let her live. She was taken back to Lord Dars' castle as a slave and the backs of her hands were branded with his mark. She grew up with other slave children close to her age, thus making the only family she could remember. When Shadda was seventeen, her friend Kaila was assaulted and murdered by Dars' nephew, a leader in the Royal Guard. Together with Kaila's brother Corban, she and her peers revolted and attacked the guards. Armed with the broadsword of a dead soldier, Shadda fought on bravely as her friends fell.

They succeeded in killing a handful of guards before only Shadda and Corban remained alone. After a fierce and violent fight, Shadda killed Dars' nephew. The commander of the guards, who was a close friend of the Lord's nephew, deeply wounded Shadda in the side. His sword was broken halfway through and he had her against a wall. Across the hall, a group of soldiers had overpowered Corban. With aid from the other soldiers, the commander was kept from killing the two and they were brought before Lord Dars.

It was known that one of the two had used forbidden magical arts. Lord Dars demanded that they tell him which one it was so that the culprit would be killed painfully by draining their magic from them. Shadda, who was gagged because she had bitten a guard on the neck, knew that Corban would try to take the blame in an attempt to save her. She tried to tell them it was her, but the guard knocked her out with the flat of his sword. She came to a day later, after she had been thrown into the woods in the middle of a storm. She was wounded badly with a broken leg that healed badly. She is able to hide her limp with a staff that also doubles as a weapon.

After what happened, Shadda feels that it is her fault that Corban died and she is now on the run from Lord Dars.
