Grant McKonachie was the only one who did not fly himself. He was the best friend Russ and Madge had they all went on family vacations together in Hawaii and  who later became the head of Canadian Pacific Airlines, a company that was owned by a private company. He was a wonderful man and a great friend. They were great friends with the writer Pierre Burton,Russ felt he was like a brother and many more friends not mentioned.
Madge was destroyed when Russ died of a massive heart attack, when he was 46 years old. The love of her life was gone and she was in shock. She did retained a privilaged pass to the airline for her and her family. The girls's lives were never the same again and they missed their father. Madge took her daughters on an around the world trip,to help ease their pain. The girls learned alot about the world around them and saw many fasinating things on their trip. When they were in Eygpt they were honored to be the guest of a Prince. He fell in love with Noni and asked her to marry him. Noni was not sure what to do, and came back to Canada when their trip was over. But to this day she wishes she had married him! Over the next few years Noni and Joy explored life. They married and had families of their own. Noni loves her horses and the estates in the country and Joy loves the city life with plays and musicals. Madge over the next few years mourned Russ and then some years later she married Jackson Milligan"Over the next many years she married a few more men always looking for her Russ. The girls grew up to be very beautiful women who were strong independent women like their mother. Madge became a painter and was very good! She also became asculptor and did many great works of art! She watched 7 granchildren grow up and 5 great-granchildren. Sadly she missed her last grandchild. She was a granmom who insisted they all call her DEE-DEE, she was to young to be called Granma! Madge was diagnosed with Spinal fluid Cancer in the 1980's and was given 6 months to 1 year to live. She beat the odds after alot of chemo and terrible pain. She lived 13 more years. With a fullfilled life of travel and art she was honored to become a great"Dame"and a Colonel of the Canadian Aviation Hall Of Fame and to see Russ honored in the Canadian Aviation Hall Of Fame. Also she watched her and Russ's"Pacific Western Airline" buy out Canadian Pacific and Ward Airline to become "Canadian Airlines International" therefore bringing her and Russ's dreams come true. A company that went form one Coast of Canada to the Other and to fly over seas!  Madge was  also honored to see one of the"400 series" planes, named after Russ. Dianosed with Breast Cancer again, she had the breast removed and lived another 5 years or so.  Madge became very sick in 1995/1996 and was told she had Cancer again mostly all over her body. Madge was moved to a great care home, where her daughters Joy and Noni were by her side for more then a year.  The Nurses were heard to say, "Madge was very lucky that her daughters came everyday to visit and care for their mother.
Madge died with her children's love around her and her dreams of a good life fulfilled. She dreamed of her Russ and knew she would be reunited with him........
Madge is buried at Fort St.James beside her husband. Located on the cliffs over looking the lake.Their is a beautiful dedication to Russ from his employees at PWA and a huge brass propeller on the grave tome with a Poem written by one of the employees.Madge wanted only to be remembered as "His Loving Wife" Even in death she still was by his side being the Great Woman behind the man.
