| "Roy" Royal Quiet Deluxe, 1950s |

| Roy is my typewriting workhorse. He was my second typewriter, taken out of the third floor of a friend's house, where he sat under a nice insulation of dust, spiders, and pet hair. Roy cleaned up just fine after his key hammers were scrubbed with a type of mineral spirits and he was endowed with a new ribbon. Roy fits his name -- simple, to the point, weighty. Roy weighs a LOT. I know because I carried him down a few flights of stairs and then around the house to the workshop. In humid weather, Roy gets irritable and skips occasionally, but he is my main typewriter for writing. We're working on a novel together and he has a poem titled after him. He borrwed a "W" key from one of our typewriter pals onlinel. You can see it in the picture. |
