Oliver No. 9
Oliver was aquired after a couple of years of waiting for a promising Oliver brand typewriter to come along.

The Oliver is a well-known typewriter because of its strange, bulky look, olive green complexion, and the configuration of the keyhammers.    The machine was invented by Rev. Thomas Oliver in the 1890s and production of the typewriter numbered in the millions before the company folded in 1928.

Olivers are plentiful, but finding one that is in good shape is quite another thing.  Being a poor, tinkering grad student, I got this one off Ebay for $25, but poor Oliver seems to have suffered from a housefire and will need lots of work.  I don't mind.  We'll get to know each other over long hours of extracting tiny screws and searching for clues about each other's past.

But not until I'm finished fixing Setine.  She has the workbench seat of honor for now.
