"Lil' Fiver"
1960s Smith Corona Corsair Deluxe
Lil' Fiver was my very first typewriter, bought back in the summer of 2001.  Lil' Fiver was a good first typewriter to have, as he is tough, dependable and portable.  I wrote stories and poetry on this typewriter and even lugged it along to New York for a family vacation.  As I resolutely pounded out my daily journal one evening, my father called from the next room, "That thing is so loud!  I'd forgotten what typewriters sounded like!"  I was offended at first, because I like the sound typewriters make, but soon my dad had me worried that the people staying in the hotel room beside me might start banging on the walls, demanding that the racket stop.

Lil' Fiver is so named because when I got him in the mail, he was missing two keys -- the five key and the semi-colon.  I thought they had been missing before I got the machine, but upon searching the wrapping, the semi-colon key was found and I reattatched it with glue.  The five key was not to be found and it was about three more days and much use before I found it wedged inside the typewriter under some springs.  I tried to glue it back on, but to this day it refuses to cooperate or stay on, no matter what glue is used.  This flaw or personality trait led to the first name for my first typewriter -- that and because it was so inexpensive off of E-bay.
