Fanfic: "It All Started At A Baseball Game!"

Disclaimers: I don't own the JAG characters, or the Orioles. All though,

either would bring me a great retirement at the ripe old age of 21! Hehe.

:-)

Story By: Gabrielle :-)

**I got this idea at the baseball game tonight. Yes, sadly, the Orioles lost

to the Yankees. :-( But, I'm sure many Yankees fans are happy. And, this

is my way of living it up! I think you may enjoy it, I hope so. Please, let

me know. I'm using the same two kid's names as I did in my Lost series, but

this one has nothing to do with that one. And I'm giving Bud and Harriet

another son and naming him after my cousin Jimmy. Also, for the purpose of

this story, Harm never left JAG. Hope you enjoy! :-) Thanks. I'll get back

to work on "Addicted" tomorrow. Ok? Ok.

***Dedication: This one is for my Dad, who lets me talk his ear off all the

time, humors me, and still likes going to baseball games with me! We made it

through this one and it didn't rain! YAY!!! Sure, we lost… so? Next time,

next time. And, here in my story, the O's win, and so does Harm! Hehe.

Thanks Dad! Love you!

September 2008 The Rabb residence:

"Daddy, Daddy! He hit it, you're missing it!!! Daddy!!" Macky was just

about falling off the edge of the sofa she was so excited! It was the annual

Rabb family "Let's watch the World Series no matter who is playing"

party. And to top this year off, the Orioles were playing. Now, living in

DC, The Rabb's and everyone else invited to the party, rooted for the

Orioles. And, this was the final game of the series. It was tied. And

everyone at the party was going nuts! Especially Macky and Hammer.

Macky and Hammer were Harm and Mac's children. Macky was seven and she

had her daddy's eyes, while Hammer was five, and he had his mommy's smile.

They were a pair, especially when it came to baseball. They LOVED baseball.

And it was obvious now, as they were glued to the television set. Hammer sat

on the floor and remained quiet as he watched, where as Macky was on the sofa

going totally insane. Everyone else just watched. Whether it was the game,

or the Rabb children, it was interesting. Harm stood behind the sofa with

his wife facing forward in his arms. He loved just holding her. He and Mac

were perfect for each other, but they hadn't always thought so.

Harriet sat in a chair nearby, watching them, and she laughed as she

recalled the first time they had actually admitted to their feelings. As she

remembered, they had been at each other's throats that week. And now….

Well, they were perfect together, as they'd always been really. As Harriet

heard the commercial come on during the seventh inning stretch, she decided

to see just who was willing to tell the story of Harm and Mac with a crowd

of people, and children, to listen.

"So, Harm? How about that baseball game you went to, oh, what is it,

nine years ago now? Why don't you tell your kids why you two love baseball

so much?" Harriet was really putting all she had into this one. She knew

this was a good story.

Mac twisted in Harm's arms and looked up at him with a smirk.

"Yeah Harm, why don't you tell our children what you did to me?"

"What I did to you?" He pulled away from her jokingly. "As I recall

Ma'am, it is what YOU did to me!" Mac put her hands on her hips.

"I don't think so DEAR. Why don't you tell these lovely folks here

how..."

"How what, darling?" At this point they were in each other's faces and

being sickeningly sweet. So, someone had to put a stop to it. And, of

course, good old A.J. himself stood up to the task.

"Ok, you two, stand down. I'm still your C.O., and so I still call the

shots. That goes for both of you, and I'm still trying to figure out why and

HOW you two are still partners!" Harm exchanged a glance with Mac. "But,

all the same, I will tell this story!" He walked around them and sat down on

the coffee table. Hammer scrambled around to the sofa so he had a clear view

as the Admiral started.

"It all started when I had a few tickets to an Orioles/Yankees game…"

September 1999

"Ok, let me get this right. You want us to go, officially, to the game?"

Harm and Mac stood at attention in Admiral Chegwidden's office.

"Yes Commander, that's what I want."

"With all do respect sir, are you sure?" Harm was doing all the talking.

Mac just wasn't sure what was going on.

"Yes Commander, I am."

"Um…Why?"

"To get you two out of my hair. I don't know Commander, just because I

feel like it. Because I'm a nice guy. Rabb, this isn't any game, it's a

Yankees game. I want to be there. The tickets are mine. But, no, you two

get to go. And, it isn't because I'm a nice guy. First, it's because I

can't leave with all the mess around here tonight. And, second, it's a favor

to our buddy Webb. There is a Yankee fan there he want's you two to

question. He's a well known Admiral that is being watched, for some reason

that I am not aware off, by the CIA. He just so happens to be sitting in the

row you will be sitting in. The idea is, you make friends and find out why

he's in town, how long he's here, where he's staying, maybe ask him to join

you for a late dinner after the game. Get him off guard and let Webb do the

rest. You two understand?"

They nodded.

"Good, dismissed. Now get out of my sight." He wasn't happy about this.

Missing the game, or sharing his best officers with Webb, yet again. But,

they were gone now, and that was that. And he was glad, they had been

fighting all week, and it was just about driving him nuts!!

The Game, 1935 that night:

It had started well, the Orioles were winning in the second inning. The

weather at Camden Yards in Baltimore was holding out. Rain was threatening,

but it was holding off for now, and there was a nice breeze just enough to

keep it comfortable in the left over summer heat and humidity. Harm and Mac

sat together in jeans and Orioles tee-shirts, next to their mission, Admiral

Falls. Mac was sitting on the inside, finishing her second cotton candy of

the evening. Harm watched the game intently, but he knew they had to start

something with this guy soon. They had said hi to him when they took their

seats, but that was about all. Harm figured since Mac was on the inside,

next to Admiral Falls, she would start something up with him. So, now he was

just waiting for her to finish the pure sugar she was inhaling, so he could

give her a nudge and get it going.

It was the top of the third inning, and by now, the Yanks had tied with

the O's, and Mac had finished her sugar. Harm looked over to her, trying to

get her to start something. Mac, of course was being stubborn, and she just

wasn't getting the message.

"Hey, Harm, can you move out for a sec, I have to use the ladies' room."

She was acting all smooth, like this was a game, an evening out, anything but

what it was, a job. And she was enjoying herself. Even though they'd been

at each other's throats all week. Whatever he had said, she had an answer

for, usually a smart one. And it had only gotten worse when he said

something about PMS. Now, Mac was pushing it to him good. There was no

cooperation involved tonight. Partner or no partner, and, job or no job.

Harm rolled his eyes, 'no wonder the Admiral wanted to get rid of us!' She

slinked carefully around him, as he wouldn't move to let her by. The next

Yankee batter walked up to the plate.

"Harm, give me a break, get out of my way, will ya?" She stood in front

of him; their feet were intertwined in the small space between their seats

and the seats in front of them. The pitcher pulled back, ready to make the

pitch.

"Why should I? You aren't cutting me any slack. AND, you aren't

focusing." He was very matter of fact in his tone, and boy did it make her

mad. The batter readied his stance to hit the pitch.

"Look Harm, if you think for one second that you are gonna get away

with…" The pitch had been thrown, and Mac never saw it, she heard people's

yells, and she turned slowly to see what was happening. Harm, on the other

hand, saw the hit. It was foul, and headed in their direction like a bullet

with a vendetta; a vendetta against Mac's head. Harm, being the nice guy

that he was, pushed her head down and pulled her into his chest without even

thinking about it. And the ball hit him instead. Hard. It beamed him right

in the forehead. You could hear the sound of bone against ball all over the

stadium. And then, silence.

Harm was on the ground before Mac had a clue what had happened. He

almost took he down with him, but as he fell unconscious, his grip on her

head loosened, and she managed to break free. She had initially been furious

at him for grabbing her head like he had, but, when she realized he was at

her feet, she panicked.

"Harm? Harm… Oh My God, HARM?" She put her hands on each side of his

temples. "Harm, can you hear me? Harm!!!" he was totally unresponsive.

"Somebody call somebody…" Mac had no clue what she was saying. She was

really panicking. But she knew he had to get to a hospital.

"I mean, somebody call an ambulance!!" Why was she panicking like this?

She was a Marine, she should know how to handle herself in a panic. But,

this was Harm. And she'd been fighting with him all week, and she did have

PMS. So, Mac was panicking, and she had to get a hold of herself.

'Deep breaths marine, deep breaths, he'll be fine. What is wrong with

you, you've been in situations worse then this. And with Harm too! Why are

you acting like this? Get a hold on it Mac!' She tried. But, Mac knew why

she was doing this. Or did she? Mac wondered if what she felt for Harm

was….love?

2055, University Hospital's ER:

The ride to the hospital had been insanely long for Mac, even though it

was only about two minutes, and now she was in the ER, by Harm's bedside in a

small cubical centered in the middle of the busiest emergency room Mac had

ever seen. (A.N.-hey, it's Baltimore, our ER's get REally busy at night! Gun

shot wounds, car accidents, stabbings, the usual...) All around them mothers

were yelling, children were crying, accident victiums were whining, and some

guy in the corner who was dressed like a woman, and covered in blood, was

trying to explain to a doctor who was trying equally with all he had to pay

attention.

Mac just stood there, amazed. She kept trying to get a nurse's

attention. No one was paying an ounce of attention to her. She didn't know

anything about how Harm was. No one was telling her anything. She could see

he was still unconscious, but that was it. Oh, and that he was breathing.

But Mac's worry was getting away with her, and she kept checking to be sure,

even though the monitor continued to beep steadily. They'd only been there

for about twenty minutes, but to Mac, it had been hours. She was now pacing

the length of Harm's bedside.

"This is great. No one seems to know we are here." She stopped near his

head and looked at him. "And a lot of good you're doing. Just laying

there." More pacing… She turned back to look at him.

"Why don't you wake up or something!" She walked closer. "Harm. Harm!"

She could easily raise her voice, everyone else in the ER was. No one

noticed. But, she caught herself. She leaned over him, putting her face

near his.

Harm felt her breath first. 'Cotton Candy?' And then he started to

become more aware as he listened to her words…

"Harm. Why won't you just wake up damn you? Harm!" He didn't move.

She took a breath. Mac was scared. She knew it, and she had to admit it to

herself. But, he was out cold, so thankfully, she didn't have to admit it to

him.

As was said, Harm was out cold. Or so, Mac thought. He was starting to

come to. But, Harm had become aware of his hearing first, and then he got an

idea before he started to open his eyes. Harm heard the fear in her voice,

and he wanted to see just how far she would go. He remembered the foul ball,

and he imagined it had hit him, although he had no memory of that. And he

decided to have his revenge. Evil yes, but he was the one laying in the

hospital bed. So, he let her go as he became more and more focused.

"Harm?" She took another breath. "I…I'm sorry. I know I've been a pain

this week, and, well, I'm sorry. Ok, I said it. Now wake up." He didn't

move. "Harm, if you do, I'll… I'll…" She let her breath out and turned

away. When she turned back there were tears in her eyes. Harm couldn't see

them, but he heard them as she came close to him again and continued.

"You know what, I don't know what I'll do if you wake up. But, if you

don't I don't know what I'll do either." She wiped a tear away. "Damn you

Harm. I don't know why the hell I had to meet you. I was fine until I met

you. I was sure of what I was, who I was. And then, you…"

Harm wasn't letting it go just yet. He wondered if she'd finish this

like he wanted her too. Could it be she was in….love with him? Was he

actually in... love with her? Had the been the reason he'd blocked her so

readily, almost instinctually from the foul ball? No, that wasn't it, they

were partners. He'd been there for her like that before, and she had for

him. And they'd both do it again. But, was it really because they were just

partners? Or, were they, partners in… love? Was that what he felt for her?

Love…

Mac had relaxed a little, and she was closer to him. "You changed my life

Harm." She was nearly whispering now. "You made it worse, no, you made it

better. Hell, you made it both, but… I don't know. I have no idea what I'm

saying. That's just it. I panicked. I'm still panicking. Do you see

this?? Do you??? Why the hell am I doing this?" She turned quickly away

again. She was running from what she felt.

Harm almost opened his eyes, he almost rescued her, but she spoke before

he did.

"I'll tell you why. I love you damn it. I do. I'm in love with you

Harm! Are you happy? I want to be partners with you forever! So wake up

you bastard!"

He couldn't do it anymore. A smile broke on his face. Mac's breath

caught in her chest. Harm chuckled slightly and it occurred to her that he

was awake. He'd been awake!

"Harm… you..?" Mac backed up a step; she was dumbfounded….

He opened his eyes slowly, and winced as the light came in. He recovered

himself quickly and looked directly into her eyes.

"Yes, Major, I am awake. And, since you asked, I'm very happy. You want

to know why? Because, I love you too." He smiled gently. His head was

killing him, but he didn't feel it. He only felt her. But she wasn't

feeling the same. As Mad recovered from her dumbfounded moment, she lost it,

again.

"Harm… you… you jerk!!!"

"That's all you can say?" That was it. She was at his side before her

feet moved. Mac pulled the pillow out from under his head and started

beating him frantically with it.

"You wanna hear all I can say? I can say an awful lot!! How long were

you… OOOoo!!!! I could knock you senseless!!!" It was a losing battle, for

all of them in the ER that night.

Poor Harm, he'd fought her off all week, put up with her mood, saved her

from the foul ball attack, and now he was getting more! It was his fault

maybe, he shoulda never let her go on like that.

For one small second, Mac thought the same thing. He had been putting up

with her bad mood, and he had readily blocked her from the ball, and it had

felt good being that close to his chest, she had to admit. But, that was

beside the point, he'd… he'd been awake while she spilled her guts!!! She

kept hitting him with the pillow in the middle of the ER…

September 2008, the Rabb Party:

"It was a losing battle for everyone in the ER, but, your mommy and daddy

won. As you can see."

"WOW!" They kids were amazed, as were many of the adults. They all

looked at Harm and Mac, who stood lovingly in each others arms.

"Is that really what happened? Daddy? Did you really let the ball hit

you?" Everyone laughed.

"Yes Hammer, I let it hit me so your mommy wouldn't get hit."

"Caused you loved her, right Daddy?" Macky chimed in. Harm decided to

milk this one for all it was worth.

"Well…." Mac gave him a hard squeeze, quickly making him recall the last

time he'd messed with her, and he quickly changed his mind about the milking.

"Yes baby, I loved her." Mac smiled up at him; she had him trained well,

even now.

"So, who won the game? And what about that guy, Admiral… Falls?" Hammer

asked.

This was A.J.'s question to answer.

"Well, Webb stepped in and luckily got a hold on Admiral Falls, and your

parents got a nice repremand." He smiled up at Mac and Harm.

"And, the Orioles lost to the Yankees 9 to 5." He shrugged and got up as

the present game came back on. "Well, you can't win them all…" He walked

into the kitchen to get a drink.

As the game continued, Harm turned his wife around in his hold. "You

know Mac, I think you can win them all." He kissed her with all the love

he'd had for her nine years ago, and more. No one watched the game, they all

watched Mac and Harm. They were made to be partners. Partners for life, and

forever. And everyone could see they would make it together. Mac pulled

carefully out of the kiss.

"You know Harm, as I recall, don't bother correcting me, because I'm

right, you pulled me into a kiss much like this one that night."

"Yeah, you were beating me senseless. I had to do something, I already

had a really bad headache!" He laughed. Mac didn't. She pulled out of his

arms and turned away.

"I was beating you senseless because…" Harm moved up behind her and

massaged her neck slowly.

"Because…" His hands on her skin took her breath right out of her mouth,

along with her words, and her thoughts.

"What were you saying Marine?" Mac fell back in his arms.

"Oh, nothing."

"Good…" He kissed her. As they came out of the kiss, Mac looked up

deeply into his eyes.

"You know, I did have something to say… You owe me Harmon Rabb Jr."

"I owe you? Wait a minute…" He pulled away as she interrupted.

"NO, I won't wait a minute! You were awake… all that time. While I

thought, well, I thought you were really hurt."

"I was really hurt." She gave him a dangerous look, but he went on.

"Hey, my head's not as hard as it looks!"

"Your head… Ha! Harm, you let me spill everything I had to you! You

let me.. go on… like that…" For a second she felt the hurt she had so many

years ago. But, just as he had then, he easily took that hurt away.

"Yeah, and aren't you glad I did?" He gave her the eye, and she gave it

right back.

"Yes." She smiled.

He smiled right back as he started to kiss her again. As the kiss ended,

he opened his eyes and he saw a look in hers, a look he knew very well.

"Hey, kids, you want to spend the night at Aunt Harriet's and Uncle Bud's

with A.J. and Jimmy?" Everyone laughed and cheered as they kissed again.

And for the record, the Orioles won the World Series that night. And Mac

and Harm won too. In fact, everyone won. Cause, it's my story and I say so.

:-)
