Sarah Jerrom News

April 13 2006 The word is in: "All Blues" and "Heather On The Hill" have been re-mixed, and sound simply fabulous. The other two tracks are being worked on now, as well as a new mix of "Illumination" from Sarah's 2005 Walter Hall gig (possible bonus track?). Photography for the CD is happening this week...

March 23 2006 The 4-track vocal jazz CD is being re-mixed for radio by a local audio engineer; it'll be up for grabs at the Montreal Bistro concert on April 25, along with, we hope, clever packaging and cover art. Exciting times...

March 5 2006 There is a download of Sarah's "Illumination" waiting for you here.

Feb 6 2006 On Jan 29, Sarah and her combo recorded her 4-song professional demo; it took place in the sanctuary of a church! The songs put on tape were: "I'll Remember You", "All Blues", "East Of The Sun", and a stunning performance of "The Heather On The Hill" running over 8 minutes. The lineup included Brian de Lima, Carlie Howell, Tim Hart, and Shawna Baer (who also sings with The Penny Merchants). It's not known whether this demo'll be available to the public, so cross your fingers and toes! Maybe a download soon...?

Jan 24 2006 Apparently Sarah's got a band and they're tracking her new CD right now! No word re: songs, but whatever makes the cut is gonna be seriously hot.

Jan 13 2006 Not much this time around, but check out a new download or two! Sarah's getting a jazz group together to play her arrangements live around Southern Ontario this Spring/Summer, and you'll know firsthand via the concerts link here!

Apr 22, 2005 Sarah's fourth year recital went off with a bang! The fantastic playing by the rhythm section, the string quartet, the vocal jazz ensemble, and other special guests were greatly appreciated by all who came out. It was another wet, snowy blizzardy night and the wind almost killed the one who braved it, but it was a success. On another note, U of T's live performance as part of the JAZZ FM Sound of Toronto Jazz Series was broadcast last Saturday. You can soon check out Sarah's scat solo on Ellington's "Cottontail" and her combo feature tune, "You're Everything"- they'll be available here onsite! (As well as some recital tunes...) With all her exams and university education at last complete, Sarah will be seeking out new ventures and performance opportunities. Her vocal jazz arrangement of "Across the Universe" will be performed in Edmonton by a great group called "'Nuf Sed", directed by Scott Leithead sometime in May. Stay tuned for more upcoming events!

Mar 31, 2005 The big night is nigh! The countdown says two days to go until Sarah's fourth year recital. The evening will feature the music of Cole Porter, Chick Corea, Maria Joao/Mario Laginha, Claudia Acuna, Sarah Slean, the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Sarah herself, and many others. Stacked with 17 other talented performers, it will indeed be an epic event not to be missed. Check out Sarah's "Shows" link for more details, but here's the clincher- it's free admission!

Mar 4, 2005 The Sound of Toronto Jazz broadcast date has been confirmed! On Saturday, Apr. 16 at 6pm EST, Jazz FM 91.1 will be broadcasting the live performance of the University of Toronto's Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Kirk Macdonald Ensemble, recorded at the Ontario Science Center. If you want to listen over the internet, check out Jazz FM! As well, the Vocal Jazz Ensemble will be performing Sarah's arrangement of Across the Universe this Wednesday, Mar. 9 at 8pm in Walter Hall. You can view the Shows link for more details!

Feb 26, 2005 In response to a recent question from her guestbook, Sarah, during her four years of university, has "learned much about what I have yet to learn. Goals have been met with more goals ahead, which is a good thing. As for exposure, this has become a prime focus with graduation looming ahead." Sarah is planning to hit the market with full force once school is over!

Feb 24, 2005 Sarah has downloaded some new songs onto her Songs link, after recording a media demo with guitarist Harley Card. The session was recorded Feb.12, and features the number one hits Like Someone in Love, East of the Sun, and I'm Old Fashioned. Consider it a sneak peek before Sarah and Harley jazz this town to the ground!

Feb 23, 2005 Be sure to check out Sarah's show link, because now that reading week is over, things are heating up in this arctic town! Two of Sarah's university ensembles, the Kirk Macdonald Ensemble and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, are performing in the Sound of Toronto Jazz Concert Series at the Ontario Science Center. These shows are recorded live and broadcast at a later date on Toronto's very own Jazz FM 91.1- very cool. Check it out! As well, stay tuned for the inside scoop on Sarah's recital picks!

Feb 7, 2005 Sarah sang at her friends Danielle and Vu's wedding last night, and was a guest singer on "Too Darn Hot" with The Kevin Clark Quartet at the swing-dance party after the reception! She'll be sitting in for a couple concert dates with the band, at their request, working herself into the Toronto jazz scene along the way. Also, you can hear Sarah on the radio at JAZZ.FM 91.1 in early March, with the U of T Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Stay tuned for info on how you can attend the live recording session.

Jan 21, 2005 Sarah has been working on a new arrangement for the U of T's vocal jazz ensemble, and it is almost completed! Let's keep the suspense alive by dropping the words "Across the Universe" and "accapella"... stay tuned for the premiere performance date...

Jan 8, 2005 A newly-recorded "live" song, barely a month old, can be downloaded at Sarah's SONGS link. It's the jazz classic "Anthropology", done by the U of T Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and featuring an outstanding scat-solo by Ms. J. Go, find it!

Jan 7, 2005 A benefit concert (one of an ongoing plethora of such) is being co-ordinated for the relief of Tsunami Victims in Thailand and Sri Lanka and surrounding area. Featured artists include the U of T Vocal Jazz Ensemble, groups from the Classical music faculty, and solo performances, in a "cabaret setting". This oughta be good, and for a super cause! Stay tuned for date and location...

Dec 26, 2004 Good news! Sarah's pneumonia is mostly cleared up, and she is back on the Toronto music scene. Upcoming performances include The Middle Eight (Sarah on vocals and piano)- check out the "News" link for more details! More University of Toronto performances will follow in the New Year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Nov 10 2004. The "bronchitis" turned out to be "pneumonia", and Sarah's been laying low, taking care, and recovering. Good news, though! The University Of Toronto Vocal Jazz Ensemble album (CD) is out! When we find a relevant internet site to order it from, it'll be posted right here!

Oct 2 2004. Sarah apparently has a bad case of bronchitis, and is under much stress at the moment just to breathe without violently coughing. Needless to say, any "gigs" in the next couple weeks are up in the air. Stay tuned!!
