Sarah's paternal grandfather, George Washington McClellan Hudson, a circuit riding preacher who was born in Greenfield, Indiana and spent much of his adult life going on horseback from town to town across the country before settling for a number of years around Sullivan, Illinois after marrying Sarah's grandmother, Sarah Alice Ritz, from Licking, Missouri.
