In the beginning of chapter 32, Pip recieves a note from Estella ordering him to arrive at the London train station to meet her. Having four hours until he meets Estella, Pip gets anxious and decides to go to the train station early. At the station, he encounters Wemmick, and is taken by him on a brief tour of the miserable, Newgate Prison, which, according to Pip was, "A frouzy, ugly, disorderly, depressing scene, with fetters hanging upon the bare walls." During his tour of the prison, Pip is introduced to a man, sentenced to death by hanging. |
