Magna Carta Journal
The Magna Carta, also known
as the Great Charter was an important document that was a stepping stone for
modern democracy. The Magna Carta included such fundamental rights as
trial by jury and due process of law, protection against the arbitrary taking
of life, liberty, or property. The Magna Carta basically brought the idea
that monarchy did not have absolute power. The Magna Carta impacted England greatly because back then it was very common for a
monarch to have absolute power. Now with the Magna Carta, the monarchs
had limits they had to go according to. For once they were a limited
government. Limited government is one characteristic of democracy, so
therefore the Magna Carta obviously made democracy closer. Another way
the Magna Carta impacted the England was that it gave equality for people. In the
beginning the charter was meant for only the privileged people, but over time
it became the rights of all English people. For once, people were treated
with equality.
