Federalist paper 67
This basically talks about how the
people against the Constitution, or the anti-Federalists, are trying to make
the government a monarchy. The
Federalists do not like this idea. It
goes into great detail about how the anti-Feds are trying to make the President
of the United States
the supreme ruler instead of just a guy who helps in leading the government. They are almost making him more important
than the king, was. The writer also
talks about how it is impossible for someone to realize how terribly wrong it
is to have a President act similarly as a king would in a monarchy. He is basically tearing down the guy who was
talking about how the President should be more like a king. He is also writing about how it is the
presidents right to only fill the vacancies of the senate, not appoint them
from the beginning, which gives him limited power. Alexander Hamilton, the writer, explains at
the end that he wanted to make it clear to everyone that the president will
only appoint the senators in case the first one resigns or abdicates. This means that he has a limited power. This relates to today because the president
is not all-powerful. He has things that
he has to do as the president, but appointing senators for the legislative
branch is not what he can do. This is
unless someone resigns, then he can appoint people during the recess.
Federalist paper 10
Basically he is
talking about how the government developed can help in controlling the problems
that have to do with the different groups of people with different
beliefs. These groups of people that
promote their own beliefs are hurting the freedoms of other people. HE also mentions how the people basically
blame all the problems in the United States
on the government itself instead of the people who infringe the rights of
others. What people do not realize is
that because of human nature, these “factions” are inevitable. They are always going to be there because not
everyone is going to agree with everyone else.
People are going to have their rights revoked. He then proceeds to speak of why these
factions exist. He believes that they
exist mainly because of the unequal distribution of property. People are going to think differently when
they have money as opposed to when they do not.
There are basically two ways to handle these “factions”. One way is to remove its causes, which is
impossible. The second is to control its
effects. There are really only two ways
to “control its effects”. One of these
ways would be to destroy liberty which is impossible in a democracy. The other is to give every citizen the same
feelings, mindset, ideas, religion, etc.
These two things are basically impossible. It is impossible for someone to be exactly
the same as another. This is why the
framers made up a representative democracy so that basically everyone gets a
word in for ideas of how to run the country.
Theoretically the persons who represent the people will be solely in it
for the good of the population, but in reality that is not going to
happen. This is in effect today because
we have a representative democracy and most people get to be heard, but there
is still the human nature factor, which makes the factions come into play and
not all people are content with the government.
