Chapter Review 24 1-13

 

  1. There are qualifications that must be met which are an age, citizenship, and residency for the memberships in legislature.  The legislatures are elected for an even number of years and their terms are two-year or four-year terms.  There is a compensation involved n the legislature because too many good people refuse to run.
  2. The legislature is the lawmaker of the State and it is supposed to be responsible in translating the public will into the State’s pubic policy.
  3. Direct legislation is where the States allows the voters to help with the lawmaking decisions.
  4. The governor is like a president because he/she is elected by voters.  They are also elected for four-year terms, and their job is to basically be the president of that State.  He is supposed to represent the State.
  5. Governors are different from the president because he is only chosen by popular vote and not just the electoral votes.  He also has a one-term limit in some states. 
  6. There are many executive department officials that are elected because they help with what the governor is trying to do, and they are elected because then one has a better idea of who the officials are and they are more likely to be who they people want that person to be.
  7. There are the parishes and boroughs where there is an organized county government.  They are the judicial districts in the New England States. 
  8. In the New England states the county government is there judicially.  Some of them act as a local government.  They govern mainly the rural areas.
  9. The most common types of special districts are to provide the water, sewage, or electrical service, and to furnish fire, police, and sanitation protection.
  10. There is the Mayor-Council form, the commission form, and the Council-manager form of government.
  11. Most cities in America were created randomly with a plan.
  12. Suburbanites has caused the people to mainly move to the suburbs and this creates an over population in the suburbs and not enough people in the cities.
  13. The water supplies, sewage disposal, police ad fire protection, transportation, and traffic control are the things that were problems of the metropolitan area.
