Unit Title:  Writing- Book Reports  Lesson Number and Title:  Lesson #1-What is included in a book report

 

Context

§          Students will be introduced to how to write a book report though a virtual field, movie and BrainPop.

§          The students have prior knowledge of writing basic reports and reading.

 

Objectives

§          Students will have greater understanding of the level appropriate book that they have read. Also they will have gain an understanding of what should be included in book reports, like setting, characters and conflicts.  They will also know how to include their own opinion into the report.  The students will also be presenting their report to the class and gain an understanding of how to present a book report.

 

Connections

§          EL-4-WC-S-8: Students will provide sufficient details for clear understanding.  Students will read a book of appropriate level and then write a report that clearly shows their understanding of what they have read.

 

Resources, media, and technology

§          The students will need to pick a book to do their report.  They will also have to use a computer to type their reports. In class we will watching my video on book reports, and using the virtual field and BrainPop to use more about what needs to be included, for these I will need a computer and projection system. Paper and ink will be needed to print out the reports on the computer.

Procedures

§          Students will choose a book that is level appropriate.

§          Though the virtual field, movie and BrainPop the students will learn what is to be included in their book report.

§          As a class we will read Cinderella and make a book report as a class, so the students get firsthand experience at making a book report.

§          The students will have time to write their book report during class time or at home as homework.

§          If needed the students will get reading time in class and time to type up their book report.
