Medical Separations
and ET's...
Wow.  There has been a lot going on here lately.  On Saturday afternoon one of the other trainees, DeeDee, was visiting a town nearby with her host mother.  They had hired a driver, and on their way home the driver "fell asleep" (a few of us think he was drinking but can't prove it), and their car hit a pole.  The driver was not injured, but DeeDee's host mother was in the front seat and was badly injured, she is still in the hospital.  DeeDee, who was in the back seat had 2 compound breaks in her right leg.  She was taken to the hospital in Panagyurishte, and then rushed to Sofia where the Peace Corps medical doctor looked at her.  On Sunday she was transferred to London, where it is possible they did surgery.  Nobody is sure how long she will be in Sofia, but we know that she will not be returning to our group.  It is very sad.  The doctor said that it will take her at least 7 months to recooperate.  DeeDee was a wonderful person, full of ambition and a desir to change the education system here in Bulgaria.  But she had a run of bad luck.  A week before, she was bitten by a stray dog on her way home from training, and was in the process of undergoing a rabies series.  We all hope that DeeDee will be able to return to Bulgaria for next year's training so she can fulfull her wishes.  Our hearts go out to her and we all wish her a speedy recovery.

On another sad note, one of our Ecologs has decided to leave the group.  He was transported to Sofia today where he will fill out paperwork, and hopes to be on a plane within the next 2 days.  He is returning the the States to get married to his girlfriend.  I talked to Steve yesterday at his going away party, and he said that there is a possiblility that he and his new wife may return for training here next year.  For him, it was bad timing.  We all wish him luck in his new adventure, and hope to see him again.

It is always sad to see some of our family members leave us but we are happy to have known them, even if for a short time.  Hopefully we will see their smiling faces next year at training.  We wish you the best of everything in life.

Onto another note...My 7th graders are hellions!!!!  The class is full of raving lunatics!  I can't control them at all because I have them last period.  They only want to leave.  They don't concentrate or listen to me.  It's difficult because I can't figure out if they understand and just don't want to do the work, or if they really don't understand at all.  I have no idea what to do with that class.  My throat hurts because I had to yell over them today just so they could hear me.  Finally I just gave up.  It wasn't worth it anymore.  I had completely los control of the classroom, and had no idea what to do.  I just hoe that tomorrow will be better.  I'm sure it will.

I love you and miss you all, please write to me!!

Love, sarah
