Oktoberfest!!
October 3-7, 2002
Finally!  The Peace Corps just converted from Macs to PCs, and they got an additional 4 computers for PCV use.  The internet is fast and amazing, and I'm happy to say that it is now going to be easier for me to update my web page and pictures.  I know that this is a little overdue, but I can finally tell you all about Oktoberfest!  I don't think I've had more fun in my life!!!  We (me, Jake, Dave, Richard, Tyler and Chantel) flew into Munich and somehow bumbled our way via train to Dachau.  When we got to the hostel we found that Diane and Matt Ziems had already made it.  We checked in, and then the guys headed into Munich while we girls waited for Liz, who was flying in in an hour or so.  We played cards, and when Liz finally arrived, hugs were traded, and we got our butts to where the action was.  The plan was to meet in front of the Hauf Brau House tent, but as soon as we walked onto the grounds, I realized that if you get lost, there is no way to ever find your friends again.  It was nutts!  Thousands of people milling around, already drunk and happy at noon.  We finally met Matt, who told us that they miraculously found an outside table at a neighboring tent.  We plopped down at a table full of the most incredible mix of people; an American couple there on their honeymoon, two germans, a russian and some polish guys.  I ordered what had to be the biggest beer I've ever seen--and there's only one size, none of this small beer crap--and used both hands to lift it to my mouth...ahh bliss...
