Each student is required to keep a neat, orderly binder detailing each six-weeks work in Biology I. Since your Semester Exams will be comprehensive (that is, there will be questions from previous tests) it is recommended that materials not be disposed of at the beginning of a new six weeks, but at the end of the semester. Binders must be divided as follows:
  1. COVER SHEET      Use this sheet as your cover page.

  2. CALENDAR /GRADE SHEET / WARM-UPS      Your calendar will immediately follow this coversheet. There will be a schedule of daily activities posted in the classroom. It will change from week to week, however, so it is your responsibility to get the weeks activities copied onto your calendar. If you are absent, find a classmate and copy their calendar for that day. You are responsible for keeping up with your grades. When I hand back assignments and tests, write the assignment and grade on your grade sheet, which is found on the back of the calendar. Warm-ups will be taken up with portfolios every time we take a test.

  3. PERMANENT PAPERS      This section will contain all papers given to you that are designated Permanent Papers. These are papers that you will keep all year long. They must remain a permanent part of your binder.

  4. CURRENT TOPIC NOTES       Keep all papers for a topic together in this section. Remember to clip your notes into your binder when you receive them. (Date all papers.)

  5. GRADED PORTFOLIOS      This section will be a collection of topic portfolios. On the day of the test, I will ask you to put all papers from the "Current Topic Notes" section together. These will be stapled together with a portfolio coversheet on top.
This will be taken as a portfolio grade.
When you get your graded portfolios back, place them in this section of the binder. At the end of the semester, you should have a collection of portfolios that are organized and will help you study for the final.

  6. PROJECT INFORMATION      This is your Works is Progress section. Place project instructions, research, data, outlines, and rough drafts here. Upon turning in your project, the above information will be turned in as well.
