Characters:These tiles are numbered from 1 to 9 and depict the characters for said numbers.
Bamboos:These tiles are also numbered from 1 to 9 and depict pictures of bamboos, the amount being the number on the tile, except for 1. Depicted on the 1 tiles is a bird.
Circles:These tiles are numbered 1 to 9 and depict circles, the amount being the number on the tile.
Winds:These tiles contain characters for the North, South, East, and West winds.
Dragons:There are three tiles in this category, sometimes called the Green, White, and Red Dragon tiles. (Note: When you play Taipei with the color off, you will see the letter F on the green tile and the letter C on the red tile. These stand for the Chinese words "Fa" and "Chung".
Seasons:These four tiles depict pictures of spring, summer, fall, and winter. These tiles match each other- for instance, you can clear a Summer and a Winter, or a Spring and Winter, etc. Flowers:These four tiles depict pictures of a plum blossom, an orchid, a chrysanthemum, and a bamboo. These tiles are matched the same way as Season tiles.
