This page lists hints for MineSpeeders. What is a MineSpeeder? A MineSpeeder is a person who goes for best times in Minesweeper.
There are a few general tips for making the most of your Minesweeper time.
- Start from the middle- you have more neighboring squares to work with (To be exact, this gives you 8. The side gives you 5, and the corner gives you a paltry 3 squares.)
- Make sure your mouse is clean. Dirty mice mean mis-clicks, and there's nothing more annoying than clicking a square you know is a mine just because your mouse didn't cooperate!
- Memorize common patterns- this will save you lots of time that would have been spent trying to figure them out.
- Don't try to play extremely quickly- this will only make you mis-click more often.
- To flag or not to flag? It depends. Personally, I find flagging time-consuming, but that's only because I never flagged when I started to learn Minesweeper, and am now accustomed to non-flagging. However, some people need flags to visualize the mines' position. It's a matter of personal taste.
