Welcome to the Perilous Pit, a place for hard-to-reach spots, secrets, and item caches (not the debugs, the secrets) in Keen 4. If you have one of these in Keen 4 I haven't put down yet, please tell me- I'll thank you.
Border Village
Lotsa Lives: Go into the second house, and down the pipe. You'll find yourself in an underground room. There is an invisible passage (it's near the two Neural Stunners) here that takes you to a crevice-like place that has about nine lives and another exit.
Cave of the Descendents
Obstacle Course: When entering the door in the air with the large fall, head right a little, and you'll be on a platform. Pogo up and right, and you should end up on a hidden platform right above the column of three Shikadi Sodas. Head right and you'll end up in an area with lots of obstacles, but many items if you get through them.
Chasm of Chills
The Sky's the Limit: There is a "bridge" of platforms that you can cross to bypass the ground level. From one of these, you can jump straight up into the sky portion. There are a few items up there, but also many Licks and Thunderclouds. To exit, drop down (jump holding the down arrow).
Treasure Trove: At the beginning, travel past the Mad Mushroom. You'll see a series of holes with slugs in them. Go in the second hole from the right, get rid of the slug, and then enter the right wall. It takes you to a room with lots of items.
Crystalus
The Extra Jump: There's a series of "step" platforms leading to a locked door and a key. (It's on the left side of the level- the side you come in from.) You can get to the platform above this door. There are some platforms that have items above them like ice cream cones and jawbreakers, but the jumps are extremely difficult.
Hillville
Near the beginning, you'll see something glisten in the sky...Could it be a hidden platform? Why, of course! Climb the platforms and you'll be at a dead-end below some torch blocks. Pogo onto the top of these blocks. Exploring the platforms, you'll find donuts, stunner charges, and an extra life! There are more torch blocks near the end of the level- find an ice cream cone here!
Isle of Fire
Elevators to Items: Elevators are in the sky when you first enter this level. Climb the hill, watch the clouds closely. What's that black thing moving around? An elevator! Jump on it, and make the hard series of jumps across the elevators, and you'll be rewarded with an elevator that drops down to 4 ice-cream cones.
Isle of Tar
Item Bridge: Go up the long pole near the red door, and you'll see an indentation in the ceiling to the left. Jump in this- it's another pole leading to a series of platforms over a tar patch with an ice-cream cone above the last one.
Miragia
Free Ice Cream: At the beginning, climb the ice blocks and do an Impossible Pogo Trick up onto the top of the ice dome. Drop down to the left and get those 3 ice cream cones you jumped blindly for at the beginning (admit it!)
Pyramid of the Forbidden
The Skypests' Secret: Once you enter the area with the flock of flying Skypests, you'll see a platform. It's difficult to jump onto, but possible. Once you've gotten on this platform, pogo off of it and you'll receive many items including some ice cream cones!
Sand Yego
Platform In The Sky: Go to the area with the green key surrounded by raindrops. Hmmm...does the sky look like it's flashing? It's more hidden platforms. It's simple to jump on them, step by step, until you reach a platform with many items, including a Lifewater Flask!
Slug Village
Chamber 1: Drop down into the underground layer. You'll see a Bounder- hmmm, did it just go through the wall? Let's follow it. Enter the right wall- it's a secret passage that takes you to a series of chambers with items.
Chamber 2: There are several ditches near the fire area. One of them holds a secret passage that takes you to YET ANOTHER chamber with items.
Mega-items: There is a passage leading to the underground section near the fire area. On the ground above this, there are several Bounders. Pogo on one of these (it's a bit tricky) and you'll find in the air a lifewater flask and lots of raindrops!
