| Estevao Da Gama and Isabel Sodr, were good parents to vasco. His family made that Vasco knew how to fish, swim and sail at a young age.Then at school (between 1484-1492), in the town of Evora, where he studied Astronomy and Navigation. The Da Gama family were not originally from Portugal. Estevao's(Vasco's father)family originally came from the southern province of Alentejo (Now Baixo Alentejo), which is a part of Portugal. Isabel's(Vasco's mother) family on the other hand, were English. In 1484, Vasco became a sailer. later in between his voyages, he stayed in Portugal long enough to find a woman and marry her. his wifes name was Cateriana De Ataide. he married Cateriana in 1500. |
