August 21, 2003: My first two weeks |
| Early this month I moved down to Eugene and am now sharing a house with my staff team: Danny Kwak (also a recent graduate from the UW), Jon and Mia Kubu. I am living in a large upstairs room with Amanda, a former UO student, who will be moving out in September. It has been incredibly satisfying to have everything unpacked and to be settled somewhere I know I will stay for at least a year. After graduating and moving out of the dorms in March, I felt like a nomad for about four months. I went from sleeping on a hide-a-bed in a basement to sharing a tiny room in an apartment and sleeping on the floor, the whole time with most of my possessions in an assortment of boxes and bags in McMinnville. Finally, my life is feeling a little more normal. These past two weeks have been wonderfully relaxing, and I am getting my much needed summer vacation after working full-time since March. Eugene has some great bike paths along the Willamette River that I have been taking advantage of. I have also gotten some reading in (ahh…. to read for fun again). And Mia and I have become addicted to the daily crossword puzzle in the Eugene paper. I am still on the lookout for a part-time job. Two days ago I had an interview at a law firm for an office clerk position, and I am eagerly awaiting their reply. I have also applied at a temporary agency, which provided one lead that didn’t work out (I was deemed after the interview “too nice” for dealing with the angry customers I would face on the job). I am not too worried; I have seen God provide for me so many times lately that I have no doubt he will continue. I have already met some students here and am getting a taste of the InterVarsity culture at this school. Soon the staff team will begin planning our “pre-school” retreat (called Base Camp) that will take place September 20-24. It will be a time of training and preparing this year’s Bible study leaders, and others in leadership positions, for the new school year. Please keep this staff team, fellowship and me in your prayers. Thanks!
